What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

For anyone trying to understand what setting I'm talking, here some pics from factory headunit.

 

Have same one. A little pricey but fits perfect

 

All of those (and much, much more) can be addressed through Techstream software (with a special adapter) available on Amazon and eBay. More work and more money, but an improved head unit will make your 4Runner experience more enjoyable.

 

Finally! A use for that stupid thing by the cup holder!

 

Cheap touches to make it like home. This weekend:

• Installed the Viofo A129 Pro Duo front facing camera and power supply for parking mode. (I will have to figure out how to route the rear-facing camera wire around the moon roof later.)

• Installed front foot well lighting. (Tied in with the map lights and the fade off circuit).

• Replaced map and door lights with cheapo Novsight T10 LEDs

• Replaced backup lights with Alla LED 912 921 LEDs. BIG difference. They say "Don't f with me, I'm backing up!"

• Installed an automatic light control sensor on the dashboard.

• Scotchgard treated the carpeted floor mats. Put the all-weather floor mat in the driver's position only.

• Added a pre-filter to the secondary air pump.

• Added pre-oiled felt washers for the battery posts. The positive terminal was so stiff that I sliced one of the rings with a razor and jammed it up underneath after loosening it and lifting it maybe two or three millimeters.

 

Did this today.. Put this in a good hiding spot.. I had a friend get his truck recovered by giving the cops its location! Bought the water proof case on Amazon

 

I imagine that would help finding where you are parked in certain situations, right?

... could it not only track location, could it track speed that it moves from location to location?

 

Wow I didn’t know that about altimeters either…I guess it makes total sense thinking about it though. Thank you for this detailed post!

Awesome, thanks for that. My gps has the elevation as you stated but I thought it would be nice to have a quick altitude reference when not using the gps….I guess it’s just easier to use the gps haha

 

Yeah, standard procedure when backpacking with a barometric altimeter is to calibrate against topo elevation a few times a day when you reach a convenient mapped spot. Less often is fine if you're just tracking elevation out of interest. The other important thing is to write down the correct elevation at bedtime, because it will change by morning. Then you will also know which way the weather is changing.

For my purposes, an altimeter is a more frequently used navigation tool than a compass, because if you're following a trail, it can pinpoint your location almost as well as a GPS and it takes zero skill and no batteries to use. Those Sun Company altimeters perform very well. I bring mine on every trip.

 

Its only going to tell you location... Watch youtube videos on Airtags in vehicles..

 

I put one of these in my wife's car to make sure she's not cheating on me.

I also put one in my girlfriends car.

 

All awhile they both put one in yours to catch you!!

 

In working down by the fuse box at the driver's foot well, I found this under the door jamb trim piece. I have never seen this on my other 4Runners or any other Toyotas. I am presuming this is a grappling point when they dip and spray the cars on the production line. Pretty sure that the gray is the rust proof coating

 

Not sure how I feel about this plug. Of all things, an Allen wrench

 

I know for passenger cars, anything that close to the edge would be considered in the red zone and a shop wouldn't repair it...

 

Plugs get a bad rap but I've used them for over 40 years and never had one fail or even start leaking again. This one is pretty close to the edge but I would not have a problem with it. Shops will probably not patch one that close but I feel that's mostly because they want to sell you a tire.

 

Installed a Garmin Power Switch and if all goes well tomorrow, I'll get the C4 lo Pro bumper with high side additions and Washer tank cover installed. I have a 30" Baja Designs light bar going in it as well as upgrading the stock fog lights to Baja Designs too. I wanted to get the Garmin in before so I can run the light bar and Fog lights to it and control them from my phone.

 

The angle of the allen wrench has me a little sketched out. It was pointed towards the shoulder/sidewall. If it holds air the rest of the week I won’t worry about it.

Well not good but not done yet they low balled me on my trade but have come up some and they’re not moving the price of the 4 Runner. So I walked out!

Just bought my Toyota VSA from Jerry Johnson at Midwest Toyota. 35 years of new car buying and I never bought one before.

For $11.66 a month, whatever was covered under my 3-year/36,000 mile warranty is now a 10-year/100,00 mile plus even more. It even covers roadside assistance, gas delivery hotels and rentals if there's a problem that pops up while traveling.

To think, my dealership was starting at over $4,400.

 

nice rig - love that AG. Are these the "Smoked Amber" raptor lights or standard amber? also - What brand and size tires are those?

 

Well, if you by chance have cell service and maybe even without you can use your phone an App like Altimeter and it seems to work pretty well. I have checked it again my GPS as a number of times and they are rather close.
