Problem? New outer tie rod angle difference and spewing balljoint grease at knuckle

Do I have a problem? My new ACDelco outer tie rods were installed with a noticeable angle difference, and drivers side spewing balljoint grease out of boot and zerk.

Reason I'm investigating is because I have a grinding type noise since around the same time as install, could be coincidence. Or I suspect could also be my worn SPC UCA balljoints. Only hear it when in motion turning sharp up an incline.

I'm not sure that it's symmetric, so the angle difference may not be meaningful. Grease coming out of the boot doesn't sound right, though.

Since the tie rod is greasable, is it leaking just because there’s more grease in there that it can hold?

 

The angle is irrelevant, it’s a ball in socket joint that allows for movement throughout wheels range of motion.

 

Could be too much grease, sure.
The shop maybe shouldn't have over greased it one one think if that is the case.
I don't think it's a coincidence that the drivers side with the tweaked angle and squished distorted looking balljoint boot (compared to the normal looking passagenher side) is the side that's leaking all over my shit

 

Would love if someone can shed light on if balljoints can make a "grinding" noise when turning sharp up an incline quickly

 

You mentioned you have worn SPC UCA ball joints? I dont know if that’s responsible for the grinding (maybe they are), but I wouldn’t let that go for long. Maybe even dont drive it until you can get them fixed. Spc has been having a bad run. A failed UcA ball joint is gonna cause loss of control at worst, or body damage at best.

i think I get what you are saying about the angle on the steering tie rods. Yeah, the angle doesnt matter…you could probably grab them and twist them so the link is flat if you want.

And as for the SPC's I'm actually one of lucky ones, mine had no problems for over two years,and I'm still not 100% they're making noise

 

Ok, yeah. Buddy on a tacoma had them and they ate up his tires before he even noticed.

Might want to get those front end off the ground and test for movement in the UCA if you havent already.

 

@McSpazatron So I've checked for play couple times before, making sure it doesn't get away from me. Just checked again with my wife's help, no those white nails aren't mine. There's virtually no play when jacked from lca, shaking the tire up down left right. Also stuck prybar under, no play moving up. Some of the noise you hear is just the jack wheels. No boot rips. Just leaking grease both from ucas and otr balljoint boots. Otr's are 3 months old, which pisses me off if it was over zerked. Uca's 2.5 years old, grease somewhat my fault cu I blew out one of the boot seals after driving following way too many pumps

Gotta replacement kit waiting in the wings as well.
I seen recently that SPC dropped a new and improved SKU for these, same shit but no zerks, sealed boot and new engineering. Dunno if there's a price difference but wondering if I should try returning the OG replacement kit..granted my control arms are compatible for a swap with sealed boot assembly? I think so

 

Regarding overpumping the zerks on the ball joints, I don’t know how bad that is, or if it’s bad at all. I wonder if you could just squish out the excess and re-seat the boot, if the boot unseated itself.

I would totally try to go for the new sealed ball joints if they let you return them.

 

Just ordered the only two improved sealed balljoint replacement kits in Canada, to my beloved local Lordco Auto Parts. They're gunna exchange straight across for the old grease zerk replacement kit I bought in March. Oh baby
