Need 2016 SR5 upgrade options

hello!

First time posting,

my wife has this SR5, I was wanting to add a newer head unit and the upper panel which has the garage door opener. I will post a pic of the upper piece I am talking about.

the one she has and the one I am looking for.
Does anyone know if I can buy the parts I need from a newer model and swap them out?

I know my tacoma I could because all the trucks of the same year have the same wiring harness, I am not sure if this is the case with the T4R's.

any recommendations would be appreciated

I like tactile volume knobs and I cant stand a lot of lag when inputting on a touch screen.

as I clicked on google images I came across this Post, I guess its called "homelink" and this link shows the Upper console and the mirror versions of it!

 

If I werre to buy something like this does anyone know if when I plug it in it would function or would I need an additional module to make it work

My 18 SR5P has the homelink, love it. i would suggest giving a quick removal of your current overhead console and see if you have the harness plugs just chillin behind it. If not it will be more work to set that new one up. I don't have the 4WD features on mine and I know from installing my mic for my Alpine radio that the plugs arent sitting there.

And if you're wanting the stock look for an android radio , it's probably best to stick with car trim home's T10 V3 (multiple version with and without buttons and different sizes) or the Daisata from what i've read and seen for proven quality. But take that as it is , just my opinion. I need/want native sirius with a tuner on my radios, so I have no personal experiences with android radios.

 

thank you for the info! I had never heard of it before. can you turn off the screen that way it isnt distracting while driving at night?

don't actually know the answer to that, i don't have enough experience with it other than reading about it and youtube. But i have seen it has a dimmer connection, so probably.

 

no one mentions if the screens can turn off haha, ive been wathcing review videos the last two hours. kind of nerve racking how many issues people have with them, looks like luck ofthe draw sometiems!

 

Don't buy a head unit until you check out what features you have to have, want to have, can get by without or don't need.

There is a lot to know before project kick off.
