This is the third fourth GEN forerunner I have owned, and is the first to have these brackets that protrude below the front bumper pretty close to the recovery points/tow hooks. They appear to have a Toyota part number on them, but I can’t find the number in any Toyota parts catalog. Can anyone Tell me more about what they are? They look like they can be removed easily, and might have held a bull nose or other accessory at some point before I purchased the vehicle. I’ve only had the truck eight months. It has 230,000 miles with two previous owners.IMG_2302.jpg

    Welcome from Arizona!
That item might have belonged to an aftermarket skid plate or some sort of bumper protection protection device. Just a guess.
If it is bothering you remove it and save the pieces just in case.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I was thinking about taking them off & saving them, but wanted to ask if anyone knew for certain what they actually were in case they could be helpful.

Probably for a bullbar as you speculated. I would take them off as it's only 2 bolts and that is all those bolts are for, as well as to free up a little ground clearance/approach angle since they stick out lower that the front bumper. Be pointless to hang on to them tho, they will never get re-used since you don't have the original part hey were made for.

What OEM skid plate? Do you have pics for reference? Because hsi truck has the OEM skid plate in place from what I can see in the pics the OP posted.

Well, that shows the bracket but that's all and doesn't really answer the question.

OK, so I googled it myself. Yes, it's a Toyota skidplate and therefore could be considered OEM but it was an optional skid plate and not standard.

The prior poster listed the part number. I found the installation instructions for that part number.

I had that skid on my ‘07 until it met up with a big root on a trail. Had to chuck it.
