They want to sell you a new vehicle for a profit while getting your old one for a price they can sell to someone else for a profit. That’s how a business works… what were you expecting? “We want your car” has been a sales/marketing tactic used for decades.

I don’t see new ones on the lots in my area of NY, just used ones for new prices and some a few years old dirty and all beat up with dents scratches and rust going for a arm and a leg lol

Was at the dealer picking up some parts. Haven't seen this in awhile, I think they were new but not sure. This is in DFW.20230722_092910.jpg

Good work! Was it advertised at that price or did you negotiate it!

Just for grins I checked to see what pre-owned, 21' 4R/TRD/ORP with low mileage (like mine). Dealers in my St. Louis, MO are asking $2-3K more than I paid for mine new. Unbelievable.

There’s a dealership in the Boise, ID area (Edmark Toyota) that is marking down just about everything by around $3,300. New TRD ORPs for $45k

True, but regardless of markups, is there really a good reason to spend the extra $$ on a Pro? I feel like with $6-8k to spend, I could do a lot more than what Toyota did. Maybe that’s a question for another thread…:crapstorm:

Bought our ORP for MSRP after talking them down from the stupid markup
There was a dealership in Maryland however that was advertising a white ORP for $2300 under MSRP. Wish we could've gotten that because it was such a phenomenal deal, but the wife wanted what she wanted...

I completely understand. My wife was the same but I kept telling her to hold out. It paid off when I drove back home in a red one for $4200 off MSRP. We both thought it might be too good to be true lol

Yelp! Im in the mid-Cities. Irving, Lone Star, Freedman Toyota all seams to be stocked with 4Runners. I too was picking up parts at Irving and seen many new ones on the lot not sure if 4X2's or 4X4's.

This is the mentality I also use…not only for the purchase but also the trade-in. I’ll have a number in my head…don’t care if they decrease the sale price or increase the value of the FJ Cruiser I’m trading…you want the commission, then you figure out how to meet my numbers.

I usually do my research before for a "fair" price for both new and trade, then say this is what I'm walking out paying. How they get there is their problem.

I'm going to try this. I'll probably be ready to buy in mid-September. There are 6 Toyota dealers within 30 miles of my home and the 4Runner I want is very common; a white TRD ORP. I also don't need a new ride, just want one.

I have to resist the urge to buy one right now and wait until I get my RV trailer and pickup truck sold. I’m extremely interested to see how you do.

I just checked my dealer, they have had ~3-4 in stock since January (when I bought), now they have 22 in stock. Could not check prices but they have to be softening up.

One particular local dealer always has a 4Runners in stock... either on the lot or incoming truck.
    Using SmathPath.
Gone are those days buying over MSRP for any vehicle.

I noticed increasing used 4runner inventory in my area too. Are they repos or downgrade trade-ins? Hmmm

Owner might be doing these in anticipation of Next Gen T4R or GX....
    to avoid influx of trade-ins

I plan to keep for 10 years at least.. to get my moneys worth

I have also noticed used ones are plentiful. On a lot of them available in my area the carfax shows the first owner was a rental company. I'm not about to pay 40K for a used TRD OR with 50,000 miles when a new TRD ORP is 46-48K. I drive about 6500 miles per year, buying new will get me almost 8 more years of use. Not even entertaining the idea of buying used anymore.

What is the invoice price in terms of % of MSRP?

I think it depends on the model. e.g. more expensive models may have larger % markup from invoice to MSRP.

In my case, I purchased my 2023 ORP with no options for invoice. Difference was about 6.2% off MSRP (Not from Dolan)

You did much better than me. I paid MSRP on April 6, plus a $890 doc fee. I couldn’t find a better deal then

Surprised me too. I had been looking for 2-3 years. All happened by chance. I have @steelevo to thank for the deal. He told me about this dealer and I got in right before they stopped selling to locals. Of course, I had to go from San Diego to Minot, ND to get the deal. After the expense of the trip there and back, paying MSRP from a local dealer would have been almost as good of a deal.... but I turned it into a great road trip back.

Ok, just looked at the Longo Toyota, El Monte, Ca. website where I picked up my new Ice Cap TRDORP for MSRP a couple weeks ago (Longo only sells at MSRP) they show 6 in stock, 18 in transit (week or two out) and 74 in production (don’t know how long out) that’s a total of 98 4Runners. Approximate best time to buy, 2 weeks to a month. When 98 4Runners are on the lot, a strong incentive to move them occurs due to monthly flooring costs.
