This just happened to me. I had UV clear film on windshield and it broke a month ago. Need to go get it done on new windshield.

I assume I'm eating the cost of that.

Similar story, my $300 tint went to trash with the cracked windshield.

This is really the rub. the tint would help with felt heat on road trips where you're driving into the sun for an extended period of time, but a form fitting sun shade will definitely block more heat and UV than tint alone (when parked obviously). Also, you can forget about wearing polarized glasses. Seeing rainbows out the windshield would be an issue. Doesn't seem like 70 or 90% would be enough to forgo wearing sunglasses.

Never had the windshield tinted but giving it a try. Anything to help with the Texas heat. Appointment for Friday to get it done.

here in pennslyvania the vehicle would not pass inspection with anything on the front glass unless you went to a shop that looks the other way for a price.

I asked my tint shop about this. They said no problems they have heard about. I trust this shop they have been there for 20 years and tinted my cars for years. Always good work I have never had an issue with.

Same with my tint shop in Florida, where it's illegal to tint the windshield. They've been in business for 19 years with no issues.

I don't have the laser thermometer but have been feeling my dash this weekend. It gets too hot to touch comfortably. Hoping the heat reduction makes it where I can hold hand on dash comfortably.

Heat is not good electronics. Hoping this heat reduction will help with electronics longevity but who knows. Can't hurt and I will be happy if it feels cooler. I already have ceramic tint on all other windows.

I mean you know how hot it gets in your cab w/o tint. Give your impressions on felt heat after the tint job.

103 today and 100+ every day in 10 day forecast. Great time of year to see if it makes a difference in cooling off.

    Now we're talking!

It should be 98 tomorrow, so I can get an exact temperature difference from 08's 202 degrees untinted dash reading, VS a tinted dash reading.

My insurance company has covered the tint replacement with the windshield on prior cars. Just had to pay the $100 comp deductible.

Mutual of Enumclaw and I get it through an insurance broker. You can lower your comp deductible and it doesn’t affect your premiums too much. The collision deductible is a different story. Lower that and your premiums will skyrocket.

The problem for me is that I can't see through the $40 sunshade while I'm driving :D

I had wondered whether the film was effective and had decided to not bother. Well, I just got back from 3000mi road trip and now firmly believe the film was helping a LOT.

    Getting new film shortly.

This has not been an issue for me with the two trucks I’ve had done with 70% 3M Crystalline. One truck I did see very minor rainbows. Latest one, nothing at all using polarized sunglasses.

I have the ceramic clear tint on my 4R and an F-250. While both are garage kept day and night, when at the ranch, at a school event, etc., it make a difference. For the Texas state inspection sticker and my toll tag, I get the clear static cling film. I stick the sticker to it, leave about a half inch border them trim around it. It clings great to the inside of the windshield, but when I need to change one, it peels right off without damaging the tint.

The "tint" that is illegal darkens the windshield. State laws don't prohibit film on windows - they prohibit darkening of the windows beyond what the law in that state allows. If the film has no darkening effect, it's fine.

Truck was parked for 8 hours in full AZ sun. I’ve got full ceramic tint except for windshield. I do use a sunshade when I park and crack the windows open (including rear hatch).
I activate remote start with full speed AC for 2-3 min before getting inside. Once I open the door it feels fine inside and I lower AC to half speed

That's crazy! Without a sunshade, that's probably pushing 250+ on the dash.

I posted on the other article concerning ceramic tint. I had mine installed before a trip to Charleston SC. My wife always puts he visor down because of the sun. Interestingly enough, she didn't put the visor down and has not touched it since. The interior is much cooler and seems better at night driving.

Tinted windshield in Texas have the common 6" rule. The clear windshield "film" which is not tinted seems to bypass this restriction.

Aah I see! Yes I think *privacy tint* has 6" restriction, I doubt ceramic clear tint will have same rule.
