You caught my eye with "Asperger's" in the title. I have Asperger's too (professional diagnosis at age 32) and I just got a 4Runner. So here's another picture to add to your collection:

I notice you have a lot of pictures from Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. Do you live in, or near, central New Jersey? (I went to high school in Englishtown.)

I've seen a couple 4th Gen T4Rs with aftermarket backup cameras, but this example seems to have a factory backup camera. It has a touch-screen navigation head unit that appears to be OEM, and the actual backup camera is mounted slightly to the right and appears to attached to the tailgate. Aftermarket backup cameras tend to be license plate frame-based and are mounted dead-center...

    image.jpg

As such, I believe this to be a 2009 model since 2009 seems to be the year when higher-end Toyotas started getting them as an option. For example, SR5 and higher Tacomas and Tundras started getting them for the 2009 model year.

By comparison, I think the Prius started getting a backup camera as an option in 2006.

The Land Cruiser and Lexus LX seem to have gotten backup cameras as far back as 2003. A friend of mine has a 2004 Lexus GX that came from the factory with a backup camera...

    image.jpg image.jpg

As such, I believe this is a 2009 (last year for 4th Gen)!

My parents and I went to visit family in California for Christmas 7 years ago. I was about 5 months away from finally getting my driver's license, and still had a learner's permit...

My cousin's husband had a 2006 SR5 4x4 and after we saw a movie (I believe it was the new Tron), he let me drive us back to my aunt and uncle's house from the movie theater!

Sadly, this is the only time I've ever gotten behind the wheel of a 4Runner...

    Norfolk, Virginia

Visiting family for the first half of the holidays (going back home with parents on Christmas Eve where we will spend Christmas morning with my Grandma, then going to Hershey for New Years!).

I could literally see this sweet 4th Gen SR5 from my aunt and uncle's front porch, so I decided to swoop in and snap a few pics!

Questions: How do you tell for sure if a 4th Gen T4R is 2WD or 4x4? I don't see any badging, but with Tacomas, no 4WD or 4x4 badging generally means 2WD. The problem with T4Rs is that unlike Tacomas, they all seem to have the same basic suspension setup. Obviously, it's easy to tell a 5-lug 2WD Tacoma from a PreRunner or 4x4 because it has 6 lugnuts and it is higher off the ground. I honestly cannot tell if this blue SR5 is 2WD or 4x4...

Honestly, I think it's 50/50 since this is so far South. In Northern Virginia or any farther, it was would definitely be a 4x4...

hmm...not really sure Charlie without popping your head under the front if there is anything visual from the outside to tell you. Even if it did originally have badging they could have been removed.

Wanted to get more pics of this one, but there's a new $3 million home being built, and as soon as I crossed the street to take more pics, I saw a worker in the house looking really hard at me and heading for the front door.

I took off before he could get outside, because quite frankly it's too fucking cold outside and I am not in the mood...

Note to guys building house on East Oakland Avenue...

IF YOU SEE A GUY IN A BOMBER JACKET AND RUSSIAN-STYLE HAT TAKING PICTURES OUTSIDE THE PROPERTY, IT'S PROBABLY ME! I MEAN NO HARM!

Hahaha, the Toyota photo stalker got busted!

Just be careful, there are some really unpredictable people out there, if they think you’re casing their property they may become violent. Don’t let your Toyota enthusiasm get you in trouble. Just a thought, if you’re in a home area, it might be a good idea to ask an owners permission by explaining your truck enthusiasm, that can help keep you safe, and you may even make some new friends!

Side note: many people are very defensive and do not want their homes and property posted all over the internet by strangers walking around with a camera. Always be mindful of how the entire situation looks to the observer, it can save your life.

    Thanks! That's really good advice...

It's taken me more than five years to realize that there's a small percentage of people who don't take too kindly to other people taking pictures of their vehicles...

Back in May 2016, some crazy veteran tried to reach through the window of my Tacoma and grab my camera, after he caught me taking pictures of his GMC truck from my own truck. This was in the parking lot of Navy Federal Credit Union (hence the fact that he was a veteran; my dad is als former Navy), where I've been banking since the end of high school...

I actually tried to explain politely to the crazy prick what I was doing, but he wasn't having it, and I ended up flooring it.

I also got stopped by the police for taking pictures back in March 2013, specifically of old Victorian houses in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Some woman called the cops and told the 911 operator I was standing on her lawn taking pictures through her window, which is a whole septic truck full of shit.

Also turns out that four homes had been burglarized on the same street where I was taking pictures, in less than a month, by some heroin addict.

The cops were very professional, and didn't treat me badly. I wasn't handcuffed, searched, or put in the back of the police car.

Even so, that the incident left me with an incredible disdain for law enforcement that last almost three years, specifically the Doylestown Police.

This disdain went away on the night of October 28th, 2015. On this rainy Wednesday night, a drunk old man in a 2002 Mercedes decided to floor it through a stop sign while I was still making a left turn. The old fart claimed I ran my stop sign, and ironically his drunk ass called the cops.

Doylestown police showed up and within 15 minutes or so, he was hauled away for DUI, while I got to drive my banged-up-but-still-drivable Tacoma home and got no tickets...

I'd also like to point out that this particular house has been under construction for over a year, and the guys building it have no problems with me taking pictures. They know that I absolutely love this house and probably consider it a compliment to their work. Some of the guys have also let me take pictures of their trucks, and one time I was even given permission to walk around the property and take pictures in the back.

It was hella cold when I took the picture of that 4Runner, there was nobody around, and I didn't think that one little picture could hurt. Besides, I walk past that house almost daily and most of the guys know me. I figured they'd recognize me.

I just shuffled away before the presumed T4R owner could get outside because I wasn't in the mood to deal with yet another schmuck who automatically thinks taking pictures of a vehicle constitutes the early stages of grand theft auto...

    Is plasti-dip a mod?!
^^yes, you gotta be careful for sure. As you have seen, people will make stuff up, imagine it, and blame the first person they see. The police treated you the way they would a typical suspect, you never know what is going on around you or what problems are going on. They could have hauled you downtown and it would have been reasonable with the problems they had going on. That’s their job, protect and serve. The guy at the credit union; that reaction would be normal in my area, and camera would have been smashed.
So, just be very careful and don’t put yourself in a bad position. No picture is worth your life.

What specifically happened was that I'd seen the truck parked there, went into the bank and did my business, and then took pictures of the truck on the way out.

I pulled my Tacoma out of the parking space, pulled up in front of the Sonoma, and started snapping pictures with my SLR out the open window of my truck. It was then that the owner of the GMC came out, saw me, and bellowed "What are you doing?!?!" as he ran up to my truck.

I've talked my way out of so many situations before, and I thought I could do the same with this prick. I still kept my truck in drive and my foot ready to switch from brake to gas in an instant if things went bad.

I politely explained to the guy what I was doing, and he kinda calmed down, but I could tell there was something wrong with him that went wayyy beyond being mad at me for taking pictures of his truck. He said something like "Whatever, fine...bye, bye" and started to walked back to his truck. In a millisecond, the guy changed his mind. He suddenly spun around, started heading back towards my truck, and screamed "Lemme see your camera!" I shouted "No way!" and promptly buried the accelerator. I'm pretty sure I left black marks on the pavement. The crazy GMC owner screamed "Get the fuck outta here then!" as I drove off...

All this over pictures of a truck parked in a public parking lot! This was a unique situation. I have never seen anybody get as angry as this guy I encountered in the parking lot of the bank. Like I said, he had psychological problems that went far beyond the anger he felt seeing a random guy taking pictures of his truck. 98% of people I've encountered in the past were downright flattered, but I started taking so many pictures that the percentage dropped to a 50/50 chance of encountering some psycho.

Aside from Doylestown Borough, where all of the cops and a good number of influential locals know me well, and when I am on vacation, I don't take pictures of trucks outside of car shows now.
