The last time I bought a winch was 2003. I paid about $1000 for a Warn 9000. I later paid about $300 for a synthetic winch cable.

I just did a search for best winch, and the X-BULL 13500 was tops. It’s $400, and comes with a remote and synthetic rope. Are these really what folks are running or are these just the pretty winches people install on their mall crawlers that’ll never get used?

Or......you could spend less that $800 and get a quality tried and true Warn Evo 10S with synthetic rope. Less than what you paid in 2003.

He does have a great channel. One thing mentioned to me by the techs (All serious off-roaders) at Victory where I',m getting my bumper is this. The cheaper winch brands may work very well, but how will they do after sitting idle/unused for many months? He mentioned seals etc. that don't always hold up over the long term like Warn/Superwinch etc. Maybe that applies more to us in the wintery North and less to those in places like Arizona. Either way, for just a few hundred more, why chance it on such an important piece of equipment?

If I were looking to save a few bucks on a winch, I'd go with the Harbor Freight 12K with a synthetic line. I know several people who have these and use them successfully.

Otherwise, Warn has a good reputation, and a good warranty. I've been happy with my 10K EVO.

Good point. But, I believe it's advised to exercise them regularly. Speaking of which, I should probably find an excuse to use mine soon. :D

Agreed! I was looking at ENGO, which I fully believe was a fine product. But, I went with Warn due to the warranty and reputation.

Yeah. I think the Warn 10S is the right move. Warn never let me down in the 10 years I owned it. It’s just weird googling and seeing a bunch of super cheap options and wondering just how janky the market got.

    Thanks for the insight.
