I have a 2022 trd off road with bilstein 5100s on all 4 corners front set to 2.5" and rear bilstein 1.5" coils and OEM upper control arms.
Would 285 70 17" tires fit with the OEM trd rims which I believe is a positive 16mm offset? Would I need negative offset wheel spacer of some sort to prevent them from rubbing the OEM uca's? (they are pretty close when I looked). I googled a lot and couldn't find the answer to this most people are asking about pro wheels.

Agreed. The TLDW is that wheels don’t rotate about their center, they swing about their mount point, so a more negative off set which pushes them out is effectively creating a larger radius of rotation when you’re turning.

I'm just worried how close the uca is to stock size tires is all looks like it wouldn't fit if wider tires. Plus I don't want a BMC if I can avoid it.

Then run 255/80R17 tires instead, same 33" diameter as 285/70R17 but works with OEM wheels and clears the cab mount.

OP, Like these on our TRD Off-road?

i think these are called TRD premium rims? 7.5” wide. Yours look like black versions of mine?

This was exactly a big reason I decided to go with 255/80s.

man, this turned out great! Another example of how awesome the stock off road rims are (I’m keeping mine on too) What rear bumper is that?

    Thanks! It’s a victory4x4 strike bumper.
And yeah, the stocks rims are great in my opinion. Tough, cheap, good looking (IMHO), good valve stem protection, and it tucks these 285/70 bfg’s with zero issues.

If you have to do a BMC to fit 285’s, then something went terribly wrong during the planning phase.

I’ve been a bit “meh” over my Off-Road” wheels, but they look a lot better now that I look at them with the 285/70s I just had installed. Which is good, because they are good wheels. There’s hardly anything aftermarket that provides valve stem protection.

I agree about the 7 spoke TRD off-road wheels. 7.5” wide and good valve stem protection. I think they look great.

285's rubbed on my body mounts with -12 offset. I did not want to cut the bumper much / move the tires forward and was very happy to do a BMC.

My k02 285/70-17 tire on the stock “off-road” wheels clears the stock UCA.

The wheel turns around the steering axis. Have a look at this post.
