What is the best replacement radio head unit for a 2018 4Runner Limited with features:

Touchscreen digital multimedia receiver with built-in navigation, apps, Apple car play and backup camera with possible forward camera?

    Will a stock 2020 4Runner head unit fit in a 2018?

sounds like a lot of specific questions. I’d look at crutchfield as they tell you what is needed to make each unit work.

or a local shop if you’re not sure what you’re looking for.

Will second this recommendation to get all the items you are checking off.

Kenwood DMX, several model numbers available but its extremally versatile with the right add on's like Maestro iDatalink. I have the 1037S, no bult in nav I just use nav apps. Fantastic audio quality and is really capable of anything. Even have an HDMI input and wireless Apple/android. But it is a beast of a display, 10.1".

I always go to crutchfield and find what will fit first.

Then start looking at the features. Like anything its going be some give and take on each one. I'd go down to your local store and play with some if possible also.

I got a “Nak” for fifty bucks brand new for the RS and it’s been great. And I saw they had a big screen with all the bells and whistles.

Would you say the Screen popping out on the Sony is minimal? Does it bounce / vibrate? Block air vents?

I have my eyes set on the Dasaita, because it has a more flush and cleaner look, but I am just untrustworthy of the off-brand vs Sony.

Hey there! A stock head unit that is from the newer models will not fit. It simply won't, you'd have to do thousands of dollars worth of adapting. I tried this and after about 30 minutes i was lost on the process and ultimately decided it wasn't the best or worth my time. If i wanted to spend an extra 6 grand for the same car and a newer headunit i would've. Instead i can just spend less than a grand on something with more features. Just a few quick examples for you here

    https://www.dasaita.com/products/da...1280-480-dsp-ahd-radio?variant=40829321674908
Dasaita makes unreal OEM looking head units with the backup camera and an option to add a front. Carplay and Android auto. Built in nav. So many apps. Tons of positive reviews.

I considered this long and hard because you can keep the OEM head unit but add carplay to it. I ultimately decided against it because I wasn't necessarily losing anything by going with a different head unit and the Dasaita just had a lot more. Sure i had to scroll a over a page to get to Carplay and my phone didn't always connect right away like it did with the stock, but my stock unit also would pick up my girlfriends phone before mine when she was in the car for whatever reason. I like to advertise this option to people because it's easy to install and its reliable. You only gain a function, you don't have any risk of breaking things if you do it right and everything stays the same. Also a few reviews on the internet.

There is tons of other head units that get the job done, but Dasaita is just so bang for your buck with a nice OEM look and a big screen. I'm not sure why more people don't get it. It can be a pain to install, but there have been zero issues with mine. It makes a 2016 feel like a new car. My girlfriend and friends can just plug her phone in to get carplay and music. It just worked best for me.

If you are still sketched out by this at the end of my little spcheel, because at first i was super sketched out by their weird scammy looking website, and their Amazon listing, anything kenwood or sony will also get the job done. Most of those you lose steering wheel functionality and your volume knobs. I was not willing to give either of those up and i didn't lose that with my Dasaita unit. Those will last as long as the car has a functioning motor and battery guaranteed however.

Hopefully i helped a little. I just was in your shoes and i don't talk much at all on here but i'd love to help someone who's a little comfused because it can honestly be scary.

The Sony sticks out about 4 inches from the dash and does not move at all. The airflow, in my opinion is not interfered with at all.

Nice, what size screen on the Sony?

Yeah, my Kenwood DMX is similar, just a bit larger. Blocks some of the downward air flow so not ideal in super hot climates. I actually made a deflector to help direct air from hitting the back of the screen (cant see in pic).

8.9" I'm currently in Charleston SC and it is damn hot. I haven't noticed any difference in cooling capability.
