This thread inspired me. So, I thought I’d try to build my own rack and see if I could do it faster than GOBI. It took me about four months, which I thought was me taking my time, but it looks like I beat GOBI by at least a couple of months. And over a thousand dollars, lol.

    All of them.
Yeah not even close to the gobi. I don’t doubt even if was a clone of a gobi it could be done much faster than Gobi’s standard lead time. But in your comparison you built a prinsu style modular rack vs a all welded rack.

Very true. And from what I’ve seen GOBI’s are typically exceptionally-built. I considered steel, but aluminum is so much lighter, and still far stronger than the roof could ever safely hold. I also like that I can adjust it when necessary. I’m sure the GOBI is stronger, but the bottleneck is the roof’s capacity, not the rack’s, so for me, it was the right decision.

    Order confirmation on 4/30/2021
Delivery on 12/9/2021 about one week after making an email inquiry.
The bottom of the shipping box was severely damaged, with part of it missing, but the rack is very well wrapped in secondary packaging and no damage was done.
I spent about four hours installing it. I’m pleased with the quality of it and the install was easier than expected.
Without the wind deflector there is considerable wind noise starting at @40 mph. Using the wind deflector reduces the wind noise to little more than that of driving on a windy day. The general highway noise in the T4R is worse.

I was prepared for a lot more wind noise when I installed my Gobi.

I was pleasantly surprised when I hardly noticed a difference.

I have the no-rise option. I'm guessing that probably makes a bit of a difference too.

My wife’s only complaint is when I have the moon roof open, so I only do that when she’s not with me.

Kind of like buying a 4Runner... a lot of good options, but my heart wanted a runner.

So strangest thing ever. Just did the customer service request on there website, inquiring about my backpack and they emailed me back within the hour apologizing, and claiming that there going to have it sewn and shipped this week

I will give them credit, they appear to be improving their customer service. I called yesterday and they emailed back the same day that they will ship the backordered complimentary getaway pack by the end of the week. I emailed them back to ask about the free travel bag and within minutes they responded that it will also ship by the end of the week.

They communicated well through the process and I ended up being 13 weeks before charged. What I am curious about is shipping. It has been 10 days (business days) and not a peep from the carrier. I am hearing most everyone has received theirs under that 10 day window so...

I posted this not long ago in another thread speaking about last year.
Maybe someone has a more recent experience?

That would be pretty fast for them! Either way, it seems like they're worth the wait. Post pictures once it's installed. :D
