It's about time!....10TW3-D4 subwoofer in a sealed enclosure. 400 watt power handling. Wired for 2 ohm mono. Installs behind factory panel in the passenger side rear cargo area. Subwoofer is protected by the included black steel mesh grille and concealed by a fabric grille.

    https://www.jlaudio.com/products/sb-t-4rnrg5-10tw3-car-audio-stealthbox-toyota-4-runner-94685

Anyone taking the plunge for $1500? Considering the cost for a new OEM trim panel, OEM JBL sub enclosure just to retrofit a 8" sub...seems like a much better path!

Looks pretty kickass! I wonder what the cost will be through a retailer.

Edit: just checked Crutchfield.. same price. Maybe they'll come down eventually.

Finally! Oh boy. I have a 12W6 HO Wedge arriving in the next few weeks, but might need to rethink things. Not a huge difference in price and every StealthBox I have heard is shockingly good, but the W6 is holy crap good and their HO box construction is tough to beat.

It really would be great to get full use of the back area back as I currently have a pretty big 12 and got the HO as it is relatively small. If I did not have so much money in the audio side of things, this would be a no brainer and had this been available last year I would have absolutely gone StealthBox.

I ordered the stealthbox. I had a JL in my Taco and the thing thumped. I really enjoy how it's hidden. Going to replace all the other speakers as well. With what I don't know yet?

Nice! As for speakers, the main issue I ran into was the lack of high end offerings in 6x9 components as I initially wanted to go with Focal PolyKevlar’s which I have used prior. While I could have gone with 6.5s, I really wanted the additional mid bass so stayed that way.

I ended up using Morel Tempo Ultras which I must say sound really damn good. AudioFrog makes some intriguing 6x9 components as well, but Focal and JL only offer them in the lower tier.

Yeah the stealthbox broke the bank. Just have enough left for maybe some kickers and a BLAM amp.

Why not get the 6x9 to 6.5 adaptors from tacotunes?

I really wanted the added mid bass of the 6x9s. The Morel’s really are excellent and the shop that did the ARC Audio DSP practically stopped me from even thinking about switching for Focal PolyKevlar 6.5’s and they are a Focal dealer.

While super tempted by the Stealth Box, I am going to stick with getting the 12W6 HO Wedge as I heard my friend’s 10HO Wedge in his LR ORP and it really sounded great. Not as loud as the quote good 12 I currently have, but really good. The 12 HO should be here this week I hope as all things take a minute to get to Hawaii.

Went to my stereo guy. He wants to go with BLAM speakers and amps. He showed me a Tundra they were doing. Running stock head unit. It sounded amazing! Just waiting for the stealthbox to get here.

Nice. BLAM looks legit. Have no experience with them myself, but looks like a quality product and generally big fan of French speakers in the home audio domain.

Let's put it this way. When I had my Tacoma my Renegade amp blew. The stereo shop I go to now recommended the BLAM amp. Like 250w which was questionable to me. The guy gave me a sermon on amps and power and the hypotenuse of the sun...Needless to say the BLAM amp on its lowest setting was louder than the Renegade on it loudest and it was a 400w. I instantly became a big fan.

Oh yeah. Especially on the lower end, power ratings are a farce. I really am impressed by the Morel Class AB 4 channel amp I am using for the highs (400.4) and the Gladen/Mosconi RC1200 driving the subwoofer has been fantastic.

If it sounds at all like the other StealthBox’s I have heard, it really should be really good for the size and amazing packaging.

The 12W6 HO box arrived a little over a week ago and it is utterly amazing. While the money I spent on audio could have easily purchased the BP 51 suspension, bumpers, wheels and pretty all the rest of that, it is the best money I have ever spent for a vehicle upgrade.

It doesn't matter what is put in the Tundra. Speakers, amps, etc help but the full potential is held back by leaving the stock head unit it. The stock head units in the Tundras are total crap. They are Panasonic branded and they don't have crap for adjustments as well as poor volume control.

I sadly agree. It was not until adding an ARC Audio PS8-Pro that my system sounded great. There is no getting around it that I know of otherwise.

Are there head units available that let you keep your back up camera? Probably the only reason I haven't changed it.

I had the stealthbox installed along with BLAM speakers and amps (separates) and sound deadening but kept the stock head unit for now. The sound is phenomenal. Not so loud as to turn heads going down the street but so good that you end up taking the long way home to enjoy it. Still looking for a head unit.

So glad the setup sounds great!
How new is yours? The post CarPlay current ones makes it all but impossible to move from. That said, DSP really makes for a sea change.

Any pics of the finished stealth box install? Really weighing this route vs a JBL OEM enclosure with a 8W3V3 running off a JL VXi 700/5 integrated in to an upgraded OEM CarPlay enabled unit. Think I would prefer the look of a JBL cover vs. the Stealthbox sitting behind a modified version of the current trim panel. Just not sure how the sound would compare on the 8" vs the 10" in the stealth box.

Nice clean install. Not sure if it was worth the money but when I can't see anything a thief would want that gives me piece of mind.

    Congrats!

I just ordered a JBL Stealthbox for the new TRD ORP I'll pick up at the dealer in two more days. I think it's over priced for what it is but I know it will satisfy my needs. Like you, It was important to me to have it hidden away.

I could have saved $1,000 getting the JL wedge or whatever it's called, with the same driver and specs but I really don't want a box in the Runner for that.

Curious if you got any kind of DSP to clean up the signal from the OEM radio? With the OEM as you increase the volume it scales back the bass among other things. I've got a Audiocontrol LCQ-1 on the way that corrects the line voltage among other things from an OEM radio. I suspect if you aren't using anything, something like this would vastly improve your sound beyond what you're already experiencing.

I do understand wanting to retain the OEM as that's my plan as well unless I change my mind in the next week. I am on the fence about even opening the packaging for my LCQ-1. Looking seriously into the Alpine ilx-509 9" receiver.

edit: The Kenwood DMX1057XR has a volume knob, can turn off the display at night and can accept 4 cameras......hmmmmm.

That jl Stealthbox looks perfect BTW!

I like sirius radio and had the speakers tuned to it. I haven't gone past 20 on the head unit yet but that's where it starts to boom or you lose conversation ability. Congrats to you on the pro. This is the first vehicle I ordered (besides motorcycles) and new what I wanted and the build I was gonna do and it's all working out.

I'm glad to hear you're pleased with the sub and sound in general. I think we are both aiming for the same capabilities.....enjoy!

Is the cover a lighter colored material or is that just the camera making look light, purple hue?

It's more of a flat black whereas the interior panels are a gloss black.

Mine arrives in a day or two. Lets see if they are consistent.
