Cruising at 85-90 mph seems like the sweet spot

At 85-90 mph the engine is at 2500 rpm which is in the power band. The transmission doesn’t even need to downshift when going uphill.

also I’m not sure why people say it’s scary going over 80 mph in a T4R. Mine is pretty stable and smooth.

 

I have found much the same (well, 75-80) when traveling on I-40 through eastern AZ and NM.

 

Seems like fun, but I don’t like getting 7mpg That being said my Camry can cruise 95 all day long.

It is a nice interstate speed within the power band and very stable and planted.Unlike a wrangler. I often do 90 plus on the way to work because I leave at the last minute. But next time you're cruising at mach .11 check your current mpg

 

Yeah, it's almost disturbingly comfortable at that speed. Although, I'll add that 55-65 is the sweet spot for MPG.

When mine was still mostly stock, it got around 18MPG at 80-85.

In some places, the speed limit is 80 MPH.

And, lol @ traffic school for 85. I've been nailed at or close to 100 twice. Once, reduced, and once let off with a warning.

But, if you do get busted at 85+ in the wrong place, $250 is like a down payment.

Yep. 90 is only 10 over in an 80 zone, so basically not even getting pulled over in most places.

 

I get about 18 mpg at that speed.

 

I can’t keep at 65 mph. It doesn’t feel right. I was crusing at 100 mph with a pack of cars on I-5 going to LA and it felt pretty good.

Well that's totally inaccurate. Most of the highways in Wisconsin are 70 mph.

 

My bad. I think that map only applies to Federal highways.

 

Try Waze, it actually works pretty good. It saved me many times.

Would that refer to I-90, 94, and 41? Because those are all 70 mph highways, except for where they pass through large cities.

I keep thinking about switching over. Google maps is garbage, but I'm just so used to it.

it also works pretty good at for warning hazards like potholes and objects on the road. But you have to live in an area that have a lot active users.

 

Waze is owned by google. I wonder if the maps are different.

Well, I live here, and I travel a lot!

Most of the main highways that run through are 70. Most of the smaller divided highways are 65, and 2-lane highways are generally 55.

But, we only went to 70 mph within the last 10 or 15 years. Is that an older map?

70 maybe 75 in a 65 is all you get.

 

Yep! When our limit was 65, I generally set the cruise around 73. Now that it is 70, I generally set the cruise around 78.

Or, if I'm in the 4Runner, especially if I'm towing, I set the cruise around 64 and hang out in the right lane and let everyone fly by, lol.

But, if I don't have a roof rack, and/or a kayak strapped to my roof, and I'm driving over a thousand miles, I try to keep it between 80 and 85 wherever possible.
