I hate to say it but, the Frontier is built here in the states, I guess the quality just doesn't compare to whats built in japan.

I did hear the new zr2 colorado is a very nice truc, not sure if you looked into that

My vote for 2021 Tundra 1794 Edition crew max. :101010: And I really hope you won't look at the new Tundra and end up in the same scenario as Frontier.

But personally I prefer SUVs. :):) May be consider a 4Runner again or atleast current GX460, not 2024 GX.

    Bummer, dude!

I’ll probably be the odd one out here, but we VERY much disliked the driving position/ cab layout of the tacoma.( As opposed to the 5th gen 4runner which felt like home.) Have you sat in one?

I’d lean towards the Tundra, just for that reason, if it seems like a better fit, and the money is right?

30k miles is nothing and even with their size Tundra’s have proven to be very capable with some 35’s, skids and a good driver.

Gx460’s are pretty schweet. Talk about a rock limo. :)

    Lol
2021 Tundra is HUGE compared to 4R or Frontier.

I have a Tundra of same gen. It's nice but feels like a bus parking sometimes. Then there is the 13 mpg i get. Still like it though.

Didn't see you say that earlier. I've been there. I bought a new WRX about 4 years ago, and immediately hated it. The seats were causing me massive amount of pain after driving for any length of time. Traded it in less than a month later. Luckily I was able to get pretty much what i paid for it in trade.

Just dont make the same mistake. The Tacoma seats aren't loved. I didn't mind mine at all, but having just come from a 22 Tacoma I can say the 4R is more comfortable. Also, if you thought the 4R gas milage was bad, the 5.7 in the Tundra is a thirsty beast that gets like 12-15 mpg.

Thank goodness for the 4R. More validation we got the right tank!

Dang, this thread came full circle pretty quickly. Thats a bummer about the Frontier. I do like the look of the redesign, but I don't know enough about the rest of it. Sounds like you might meet a similar fate in the Tacoma regarding lack of comfort if you went that route.

I had a 2010 Frontier (Crew Cab, 2wd) and once we had our daughter, I traded it in for a 2011 Xterra, Pro-4x. I preferred having an SUV with cargo space to haul the stroller and other crap. Both vehicles were solid, only issue in the X was the crank-shaft position censor took a shit on me around 100k miles, luckily it happened close to home! I eventually sold it in 2020 for my 2018 4Runner. There is more space inside the 4Runner than my Xterra, amongst other things, including springs on all four corners, compared to the X which had rear leaf springs. And with a family of 4, I plan to keep it forever and hand it down to my oldest daughter, who turns 8 next month.

Keep us posted with what you decide on.

When we realized that the Tundra was too big for my wife to drive, we testdrive a certified x3 & x5, and brand new pilot, cr-v and rav4. At the end of the day, no speed or technology was enough to make us want another suv than the 4R. I’m happy we found a new one quickly and was able to get the port-installed options removed from the build sheet. I hope to keep this one for a long time.

I never thought a Nissan would have worse quality control vs a ram these days, I had to ditch my 4 runner for multiple issues and went with a ram and almost going on a year still love it. I don’t get pissed everytime I drive it and look at it

Interesting. What year 4runner and what issues, if you don’t mind me asking?

The dreaded non solvable shimmy issue, paint defects, interior plastics that were not formed correctly, or came scratched. Main thing was the shimmy issue that nobody could resolve, I am not a believer in ‘it’s a tire balance issue’ because I never had a balance issue in 14 years with any of my vehicles

1 for a issue I did not have, other than that drives very smooth, does not have paint issues, and can actually move in a non slug manor. My parents have a 2019 4 runner which had a more involved recall done for the fuel pump, mine was a ‘software update’ that took 5 min. I loved the 4 runners and still think they would be the best looking suv and most affordable, but mine left me a little sour after being my dream vehicle that was a fail. I don’t count on ram being the most reliable.

My dad has had two 1500 ram HEMI 4x4s, a 2010 and now a 2017. He’s never had a single issue with either. I wouldn’t hesitate to own one, and I would have bought one instead of my last Tacoma, but garage parking is mandatory for me and full size trucks are a no go for that. Rams aren’t dodge neons.

I know a lot of people that have them and they love them, At this point I think everything is made like shit these days so I bought based on price and thinking it’s one of the best looking trucks around these days with the color options available. I would have tried a tundra but didn’t wanna be the tester on the new generation. Damn near same beautiful blue my 4 runner was

My dads 17 is the same color. His is a Laramie, so it’s got the 20in chrome spoke wheels. Looks really sharp against the blue.

You're lucky! My dad has a 2022 Ram and he gets a new recall notice just about every month:

Mine is a 2022 ‘classic’ which is the same style made from 2010 ish to 2018, 2019 ram came out with the 5th gen, but still produced the old style calling them ‘classics’ I went with the classic hoping they would have there shit together a bit more and liked the style and and price more to. I’m sure there still working out kinks on the 5th gen.

The Tundra is awesome for room, power, looks everything but gas mileage. We have a 4Runner & Tundra, we feed the Tundra on road trips as its roomier and more comfortable.

I test drove a 2022 and certainly did have a lot of room, I thought it would be a bit faster for the power numbers they are claiming though but she will chirp the tires and move pretty good. I just feel like that 3.4L engine is getting its ass kicked in that truck even without a trailer. I want one in the future.

Even after a longer test drive, it can be hard to know how comfortable a seat will be for you in the long term. I used to have a Honda CRV which I would consider a mid-range kind of vehicle. After over a year of driving it I finally realized it did not give me the lumbar support I needed. The seat just didn't work well for me. I had to keep a back pillow in there always. Meanwhile, a friend has an absolute base model Corolla and I am very comfortable sitting in that seat for road trip hours. Luckily the 4R is very comfortable for me too.

I actually traded in a 2022 Frontier Pro4x for my 2013 4Runner. I owned it for almost a year and I just didn't have confidence in it for the long term. I feel like Nissan ran outta money in developing the new Frontier and just starting cutting corners to get the truck to market. It's a damn shame because I think the truck could have been as good as the previous gen but they just didn't put enough time and money into fibe tuning the truck and working out the kinks. Hopefully they'll get it right in the coming years but the first few years will be rough for new owners.
