    Hello,

I'm installing a steel bumper and am considering my options.

The C4 TSS relocation bracket gets good feedback but is ridiculously expensive ($170) and doesn't address the camera.

Would cutting the bumper and welding in a plate to preserve most of the strength work well?

If so, does the TSS need extra room or line of sight other than directly in front of it? Meaning, should I cut a bigger notch in the bumper than the actual sensor or maybe slope the angle of the walls to give it some peripheral sight?

    Thank you.

I bought lil b’s custom fab front bumper because C4 didn’t have TSS options at the time….

Hopefully the above helps you out.

Thanks for the effort but I already have the bumper. I lucked into a nice one but I'll have to figure out how to address the TSS and front camera.

I'm thinking the most practical thing to do is just cut and weld and leave the TSS/cam just as they are. Maybe I can test my idea by getting some steel plates and temporarily attaching them around my TSS to see if they affect it.

Well I pointed it out more because I wasn’t sure if the solution that lil b’s used would work for your bumper. More just as an example.

Id buy the $170 dollar relocation bracket, piss and moan about it for a week and then move on. Cutting welds and altering a perfectly working bummer doesn't sound like the greatest solution for being cheap. (Totally no offense meant here, I bitched too about that bracket cost.)

Oh I see. Thank you. I can't tell a lot from those pictures unfortunately as they photographed black bumpers on black and gray vehicles.

    Maybe this will help…

Another dark color but point being this is mine and the top part of the bumper sits below the TSS. Then I have an insert that holds 10” light bars that I still have yet to install.

It appears like your TSS got moved up a bit from where it normally is. Is that right or am I mistaken? I have the camera, though I doubt they changed the mount height for the TSS because of it. It almost looks like the TSS dips below and behind your metal bumper line. Is that so? Thanks again.

Toyota lowered the sensor. Early TSS 4runners have the sensor up high, directly under the grill crossbar.

Yeah unfortunately this changes things a bit. Mine was originally up high (2020). When they came out with the camera and maybe even later models they moved it down. You are truly in a different situation than me.

Oh I see. No worries. Thanks for trying to help. I'm pretty handy but I'll probably end up fabbing a bracket for the TSS, fail and get error codes, buy the fancy C4 relocation bracket, relocate the camera which I think I could actually accomplish. Either way I'm about to get a he'll of a lot approach angle!

Haha so you bought the CBI bumper I see, @Austin26. Classic "I don't know how it'll work but it's too cheap to pass up"

Yes, I never really thought about it that way but you're very right. Last week I got a great deal on a big kayak but hadn't yet gotten cross bars or a way to attach it to the front bumper/hood and decided to haul it as such:

    Ha! Successful though.
