    Hello all,

An 06 4th gen v8 here. Spent 220k miles in jersey and upstate ny through floods, snowstorms etc. Now in NC. Need advice or experience on what rust treatment has worked best for you.

    Applied fluid film so far.

I don't have an informed opinion, but it's interesting to see what that number of NJ/NY winters have done. I wonder if the increased emphasis on brine spray is better or worse for the frame. I'm glad I did Woolwax at 400 miles.

Started slowly rustproofing my 2016 this year, better late than never. I have been down the rabbit hole in thread discussions on the subject. And my garage is 100% equipped for the process.

    1. Pressure wash dirt carefully. Wire brush surface rust and loose paint
    2. Wash with degreaser
    3. Prep frame and welds for paint best you can using scrub brush with something like a metal etching rust neutralizer. Try to keep applied area wet for 30 min by reapplying.
    https://www.google.com/amp/s/por15.com/a/s/products/metal-prep
    4. Coat frame, mounts, skids, housings with black rust converter: converts rust to paintable primer surface, or more pricey POR15: rust preventative paint.
    5. Hit everything with clear rust inhibitor spray like Blaster Surface Shield, or Rust Check. Don't forget KDSS assembly if you have a Trail/ORP.
    6. Touch up each year. Switch it up to Woolwax sometime

I think this hits the nail on the head. Just bought POR15 stuff (degreaser, primer, and por15). Some small spots on my rig but figured better get it now than later and regret it. Small price to pay for such an expensive machine.

Por 15 is great stuff, but nothing really helps with rusting exhaust(other then stainless components). For the frame there's tons of products to help prevent rust but its cancer once it starts it hard to get rid of without work.

I use a marine Rust Lock on small rust areas for years. I usually prep with wire brush, then liberally paint on the Rust Lock. Then I wash the treated areas with plain water, let dry. Rust is converted to grey/ black coating from chemical reaction. Then I prime or paint with Rustoleum.
This technique works well on rusty thin painted weld zones that have been powder coated and rust first. I paint over the edges of the rust treated areas onto the good powdercoat and it seems to hold up well.
