4Runners and MTBs.

Hey all, after some discussion in the 5th gen Lunar rock thread I thought it would be fun to start a thread dedicated to Mountain Biking. Let's make this the home mountain bikers who own 4Runners. Here's are a couple of pics from some of my adventures.

#1 - My relatively new 2020 Yeti SB130 in Storm Blue. #2 - Cracked frame on the original Yeti, replaced with a 2022 frame in Rhino (looks like Lunar Rock). #3 - My 2013 Santa Cruz Tallboy. My first bike was a 2008 Trek Fuel EX8. I started riding in 2008 at the age of 46 and love it!

 

#1 - A buddy at creek crossing on the way to the Dr Park Trail outside Crested Butte, CO. #2 - A buddy on the Slick Rock Trail in Moab, UT. #3 - Me riding the Hartman Rocks Trail in Gunnison, CO. #4 - Me, my wife and son riding E-bikes in Hawaii last month. My son is in the Army and is stationed in Hawaii. The E-bikes are fun, but I am holding off till I turn 70. I am 61 now!

 

I have been thinking about wrapping my Cannondale AG ever since we got the 4R or do it matte black to be a "blackout accessory".

 

Sold the truck in April and bought a 4Runner. Growing family...

 

Lovely family! I've been trying to get my wife out on the trails for sometime now. She's abit hesitant but has gone out twice now.

 

do you still own all of these? If so wow, what a collection!

 

Thanks! All three of us had a blast on the guided E-bike tour, but it was really tame double track riding for the most part. My wife has ridden like three times on some of the local XC trails and kinda likes it, but is skittish with whatever bumps and minor obstacles she may encounter. I have three sons and my oldest 23 year old is starting to ride with some of his buddies, so that is cool to see. I would love for my wife to embrace it, but I don't see her ever riding anything beyond the tame XC trails - which is fine! It's a lot of fun and a great longevity sport!

The Spur and Chameleon are all I have currently. The others I posted were previous rigs I included for a little thread eye candy.

 

the chameleon is such a fun bike to ride! I love mine. It's perfect for 90% of the local riding.

 

I'm still pretty new too. MTBing is an absolute blast. I find a hardtail can be just as fun if not more fun than a full suspension.

 

I’d really like to get some saddle time on the latest gen chameleon. But I do feel like Santa Cruz nailed the geo numbers on the previous gen (which I have) for where and how I like to ride my hard tail. Still curious on the slacker setup.

Perfect bike for riding that East Coast Jank!

After riding out west last Fall it gave me an appreciation for how good the trails are on the East Coast and how convenient they are. The west has stunning scenery, bigger climbs, bigger descents, but East Coast rock gardens are no joke! I felt like a fish out of water when I returned home and was back into the gnarly rock gardens we have around here. Around here you are almost always in the woods and you are lucky to be able to see 50 yards. Out west you can see for miles while riding, incredible to experience!

Definitely! I absolutely love this bike so far here in the Northeast. I haven't been up north with it yet, just RI and MA, but for the techie stuff it's been fantastic. I originally was thinking I may be a little bit over biked on this thing but it's been perfect. Especially in the climbs, it blew me away how well this bike climbs compared to my old bike.

I've ridden out west too, I've been to Moab twice. It definitely is a whole different world, I actually enjoy the wide open spaces out west and the different types of trails.

I was out visiting friends in San Diego a few weeks ago, and got to do some riding there on my buddy's bike, he borrowed a second bike from a friend. The trails there were interesting, we literally wrote out his driveway, and a few blocks later we were ripping into a canyon. Lots of climbing, but some fun decens. The trails were not technically difficult, the ground was very smooth and hard, almost like cement. I'm out of shape from a lazy winter though, so the climbs definitely kicked my ass. I couldn't keep up with him on the climbs, but I impressed him by keeping up on the descents.

I'm really looking forward to him visiting here and taking him out on some old school New England single track.

 

Yeah, hardtails can be wicked fun. They're also awesome at climbing. I have a kickass full squish, but I actually have a desire to buy a nice hardtail as well.

I get out to ride 3 - 5 times a week. I have some really good technical riding within 30 minutes and a good XC trail within 10 minutes. I am blessed to have so many options within 10 minutes to three hours from home. MD, PA, VA and WV - tons of trails!

Riding is the primary reason I bought the 4R. So that I can cruise the country riding and sleeping in the 4R for the next dozen years - hopefully!

Fun exercise! I have never once said "Ah fuck, I have to go on a mountain bike ride". But, I think that just about every time I consider going for a run.

 

That's aweesome that you can get out so often, keep it up!

 

Passed thru Durango last fall on my MTB trip. Camped one night in the San Juans - coldest morning of our trip - woke up to mid 30's in mid Sept. Biked Phil's World in Cortez and another trail system in Dolores. Camped at Mesa Verde NP. Then headed towards Gunnison. So much good stuff out there! I heard Phil's World is everyone's favorite trail - roller coaster of a trail.

 

Unfortunately not! Cannot hit them all! Planning to head to Boise and Bend this fall with stops in Northern CO and Northern UT, MT, WY and SD. Fall of 2024 I would like to do a repeat of last year's trip hitting different trails and ultimately making it to Hurricane and St George, UT. Hopefully hit Durango on that one!
