Surprised how boxy it is, but that is some serious towing capacity for boat owners and it looks very capable. Nice V6 with hybrid option coming. I guess we're in the 'boxy era' of SUVs these days. Bronco, Jeep, Rovers, and now Lexus.

I like it. Still prefer 4Runner though.

 

Love the look and Toyota hit the nail on the head with this one. Seems as they are attacking the Land Rover marketspace with this design.

 

Contemplating replacing my 5th gen with one. I think it looks great but am suspicious of the v6tt

• No hideous lexus grill ++
• A trim geared towards off roading - skid plate, center and read locking diff, front and back recovery points, 33" tires and full sized spare (?) +
• Updated infotainment system and interior +
• gonna probably touch 70-75K MSRP -
• not sure if they will make it in Japan -
• V8 > t.t. V6 even with extra power, torque (in my mind) -

Wanna see one person but looks wise I'd say it is best looking lexus atm. I think compared to the new GX, LX / LC 300 just looks...meh.
I like it, I am not sure I like it so much that I am willing to spend 30K+ more over my 5th gen that I bought this year

 

Very definitely Rover influenced IMHO. It’ll be interesting to see how the market responds to that influence in the 6th Gen 4R, they’ll probably love it. But, with the power train setup we have in Gen 5 that will easily reach 250k miles with proper maintenance (inefficient as it may be), I’ll have to give it a few years to decide if a newer one is merited. I have 2 Gen 5’s and bought those as “forever” vehicles. Nothing I’m seeing in that video moves me out of my Gen 5’s.

I love the design and would love to have it but you know it is probably going to be close to $75k msrp. You just have to look at it and see the size and features and compare it to the new Sequoia. On video, it appears nicer in every way except no hybrid at the moment.

 

I thought a video on YT mentioned hybrid powertrain? I could be wrong.

 

The press release on the Lexus website indicated it will be built at the Tahara plant like the existing GX model so still built in Japan.

 

Yes, it will be available but not at release. I watched another youtuber who said that the Hybrid will most likely release in 2025. My point is only the fact that even without the hybrid, this vehicle looks much nicer than the Sequoia which is in the 70-80k range. I would not be surprised to see these around 75-85k range. I am a loving this design and size the more I see of it. Fantastic!!!

Edit: I should have also stated that while it may be priced comparable to other similar vehicles, I do not want to see anything over the current GX msrp of around $62k. Everything is getting outrageous.

 

Im willing to bet that if this is the platform for the new 4R, its not going to be offered with the v6tt. That powertrain will be exclusive to Lexus like the 4.6 v8 has been.4R will most likely get the turbo 4 from the new tacoma. 6 is the new 8 and 4 is the new 6.Turbo everything. I do like the body style of this thing though

 

I feel like it's one that I'll have to see in person to know if I love it or not. Some shots make it look a little cheap currently (IMHO). An updated interior is great and I'm happy to see the barn door go away.

Not interested in the TTV6. Those who didn't like the 460 always complained about MPG and.... this gets 1 MPG better ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

 

Exactly! Maybe hybrid will be better but a twin turbo with 1 mpg better is....probably wash in real world, or even inferior.
I keep saying OEMs are doing this not for MPG numbers but to make EPA happy. Its a shame they keep reducing engine sizes for emissions, and for marketing push for "better" MPG but it does not translate in real world driving.

 

Isn't it about the fuel range the issue? Only Tundra got a matching fuel tank for the V8 (from 26 to 38) but GX and Land Cruiser 200 still got the tiny gas tank that's good enough for a V6.

Maybe I am stuck in old ways but I don't feel twin turbo motors will have longevity. I know that's the direction everything is going to increase power with adequate mpg. One of the reasons I like the runner with ancient and proven motor/transmission.

 

Love the boxy look! Have always been a fan of the GX and LX. They've been on the list of vehicles I want to own for a while now. I also just saw that the rear hatch opens UP as opposed to the side like previous generations. I think that's a big deal!

May be because my dad's work place got more of 70s vs my wife's mom's word place got more of 100 & 200 series..

 

I don't think it looks great but I don't think it looks terrible. It doesn't matter much to me I suppose. I'm not in the market for an $80,000 vehicle any time soon.

 

I want to enjoy and ride my vehicles. Not burdened by one.
Especially after just dropping 50k

Did no one look at the other SUVs and Trucks Toyota recently put out? They will look similar one way or another.

 

Definitely better front end that the GX it replaces. Who knows about V8 vs V6 reliability. My experience with turbos is they can go for 200k miles if you...

Change the oil every 3k miles, do all the stupid maintenance before you hear a noise, blah blah blah. Oh, and don't drive it like you're at Indy. Seems obvious, but, for some, not so much.

Probably not going to buy a Lexus ($$$), but interested in where the LC Prado will fall and what happens to the 4Runner. Personally, if either the Prado or 4R has a version that's a stripped down offroader, I'd be all over that. Never gonna happen, but...

ive ranted about this a couple times on this forum. Id pay 15k extra to have a 1HZ diesel i6 powered 70 series here in the us. look at that SOLID front axle!!! drippy as it gets

I really miss them after coming to the USA. One of my friend owned Nissan Petrol (Turbo Diesel) and it's solid axle was slightly bigger. Most of my friends had Land Rover Defender. Some of them had some thing called Mitsubishi 4DR5. Pretty much all SUVs were Diesel.

I too love to buy diesel here as well. But the ones we had in Asia was little on the slow side and might not be enough to enter 75mph highways from ramps here.
Also here in the USA Diesel is expensive. The time I left Sri Lanka Diesel was closer to half the price of gasoline (petrol), Eg Petrol Rs127 vs Diesel Rs80. Not sure what's the prices are now as it always changes, the country is a joke & bankrupted.

 

It will be interesting how the new drivetrain works out. Myself I prefer naturally aspirated port injected engines.
My turbo diesel is the exception….Stone Age turbo technology.
Does anyone know if the new Toyota engines have direct injection?
