I’m new to this forum and appreciate all the helpful information posted. I have been traveling cross country from the east coast to the west. My 2019 4runner has about 42k miles. Sent it in for brakes and oil change at a friend’s mechanic. He told me the CV boots are leaking and the axle should be replaced. There was mention of all the rust and how hard the roads can be on the vehicles. Keep in mind I am currently in a state that never sees vehicles rust. Everyone who is more knowledgeable about such repairs tells me this doesn’t seem right at such low mileage. I barely go off road, just some dirt roads now and then…No modifications. Just 3-4 years of New England winters. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Depends on how the vehicle was treated. As a former NYer, I've seen new vehicles rust out in under 2 years, because the undercarriage was never washed.

    I agree, seems unusual.
But, a 19’ with less than 60k miles should still be covered under the Toyota powertrain warranty which is 5 years or 60k miles. Find a dealership and get it fixed. I’ve heard that OEM CV axles are far superior than aftermarket.

    Welcome to the forum!

As mentioned above, that seems super premature. But, it's worth having another shop, or the dealership take a look.

Can't speak to the rust, but my 2019 had leaking CV boot on passenger side at around 25-30K mi. Might not be common, but definitely not unheard of. The rust is a separate issue that has nothing to do with the CV boot leak.
Dealership replaced the entire axle assembly under warranty (no rust on my axle or undercarriage).
Mechanic is probably recommending replacing the entire assembly because it's easier not because of rust.
Leak was easy to spot (if you happen to be laying under the truck): thick gear oil flung all around the undercarriage.

I think he trying to say there's some problem with the bearings in 2019-2020 and to replace them? I am not aware of any problems with the bearings. No symptoms that I am aware of. Haven't seen any other posts about it.

***Come to think of it, maybe he's referring to the needle bearing issue that affects some? I haven't had that problem. Many replace the needle bearing with the ECG bushing.

Are you saying to replace the bearings? Wording is, in a way confusing, trying to understand.

What we'd give for a non-stroke victim, complete sentence with an attempt of punctuation in some of these posts. OMG. "Say 'what' again, I dare you!!!"

That may actually be the case judging from his previously post history with much clearer communication. Take what you can from the post, sometimes you can tell what he’s trying to say. I’m probably sure it’s frustrating on both sides.

Without visually inspecting yourself, don't replace anything. Crawl under and take some pictures and post them.

^OP had a single post a year and a half ago then disappeared. We can only surmise he died a fiery death when his CV axle exploded like in a Michael Bay movie. The rest of the thread is about a possible stroke victim.
