Just bought it from a good work friend. 152,500 miles.

The buttons are inconsistent but consistently work only when the want to! Which is seldom. A local garage has it now. Says no new parts anywhere including Toyota. He said a salvage yard has a used one and I told him to get that. The new part if available would be close to $2,000.00
Any ideas on fixing the AC/Heater buttons?

You can get the HVAC controls on ebay as well. They are plentiful there. Just have to find one that matches what you have already as there were several variations depending on the OEM radio installed to the trim level of the 4runner.

You got that right! The control unit my mechanic got from a local junkyard did not fit. He said it worked but did not fit. He has reordered another one. They said it was the correct one, but you got the details right it seems.

Yeah, they will work but the fit can be different. You also need to pay attention to whether or not you have the Auto Temp functions or not. There were a bunch of variations available.
