My 2019 SR5's stock tires are coming up for replacement at about 30k. They are Bridgestone Dueller H/Ts, P265/70R17 11-3s.

I'm looking for replacements that offer better longevity with at least as good wet/dry performance. My 4R is a daily driver and sees about 1% off-road use (sand about every other year: pressuring down works fine with these tires).

The 30k lifespan is about what I'm used to with factory tires on my last 2 4Rs.

Again, looking to keep stock profile, just looking for thoughts on a better tire.

    Thanks!

I had Yokohama Geolandar AT G015's on my last 4Runner and they were great all around tires. Very good in snow, wet, dry, and I drove on a lot of sand, dirt and gravel roads without any issues.

The Michelin LTX M/S will probably get a lot of votes as well. They're generally considered one of the best tires available for street use and light off-road use. They're also known for excellent tread life.

Michelin Defender LTX is exactly what you’re looking for. It’s perfect for what your requirements are.

Been running some version of Michelin LTX 10 ply MS or Defender type tread as an all-weather year round tire for about 20 years on northern ice roads, gravel and mud trails and Mexican pothole highways on 4x4 trucks. Had to repair a couple of nail punctures but never have had a flat in that time.

Another vote for the Michelin Defender. I had them on my Land Cruiser and they were a dream.

Another recommendation for the Defenders. That's what I'm running. You get what you pay for.

And yet another vote for Michelin - only I went with the LTX-AT2 version. Quiet on road and really does well on dirt roads also. Google and read the reviews.

Just ordered a set of the Defenders from Costco. They had to order them and they'll do the install when they come in.
Total w/o state tax was about $950 mounted and balanced.

That’s a great price. I just paid $1200 at Discount Tire for a pair 3 months ago. My 3rd set, went on my wife’s MDX. You’re going to love them.

Costco is the way to go for tires in my experience AND you have a 70,000 mile warranty on the Michelin Defenders. Good choice!

Wow. My 2019 had Duellers which lasted past 90k. 30 seems a bit odd for them to wear out. Replaced those with Continental Terrain Contact AT tires. A little more aggressive tread, but not overkill. I like them. Can't go wrong with the Michelins, either.

Wow is right. What was the tread depth on your 90,000 mile tires when you replaced them? Around here tires that are getting thin don't last at all on the gravel roads so we change them out sooner than later.

Gotcha. Makes sense. Mine weren't quite to the wear indicators but close. All pavement though. They held up longer than I expected.

    Happy tire hunting!

How do the LTX AT2 perform on wet pavement? I have been a Michelin M/S and M/S2 guy for the past 15 years on all my vehicles including cars, trucks, and SUV's. Don't want to fix what is not broken. However, I would like a slightly better off road tire on my 4R than the M/S if the AT2 wet traction is similar. No planned rock crawling in my future.

They were great wet or dry, summer or winter. But if you are happy with what you got then stick with it.

I'm with the crowd here, Michelins are the best. I have had great experiences with the LTX AT2 on my tundra. My current set is right at 60K and still has some room to go. Wet traction (as with the LTX M/S, ran them for years on other vehicles) is excellent. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Based on reading some reviews… I think it’s in snow where the Michelin MS might outperform the AT’s on road to a degree. Maybe it’s a rubber compound thing. Or the increased amount of siping on the MS.

My conclusion… if you need better wet/snow on road performance, MS is a better choice. If you trend more toward off-road, AT is better choice. Weighing those two variables will be a personal decision.

I guess this all makes sense. MS is a great all season highway tire. Give up just a little on road all season performance with the AT while still being a pretty good on road performer. But gain a little off road performance.

Can't speak to wet pavement performance...doesn't rain much here in the desert. But the AT2 tire tread depth is 3/32" deeper than the M/S, and the tread type is a bit more aggressive. Look at pics on line to see what I mean. The A/T2's claim to fame is that the rubber compound holds up better to gravel roads than most other tires, yet it is still very quiet on pavement.

The M/S has 4 large circumferential grooves and a shitload of sawtooth siping, so it's most likely better than the AT in wet weather. And, probably in snow as well.

The Michelin LTX 10 ply MS wins. The final deciding factor - aggressive AT looks vs safety in inclement weather. Especially with Part time 4WD (not even AWD). Just my 2c

I'm seriously considering picking up a set of Defender LTX M/S. I've never run Michelin tires, but have always wanted to try them. Based on all the reviews, they seem like they would be perfect for my driving style. The Falkens I have are a bit loud, and I'm tired of the noise.

I like the price at Costco, but I don't know if I trust them to mount and balance them as well as the Discount Tire I use would. Discount does offer a price match, but I don't know if that would include Costco...
