How to disable Sirius XM?

Is there any way to disable Sirius XM? Trial ended couple of months ago, now it's just annoying...
Every time I accidentally toggle up my favorite channels list on my steering wheel, it goes on XM channel and won't come out unless manually going to source menu on the head unit and change the source back to FM. It could be distracting while driving.

 

There’s no way to delete XM entirely, but to remove any XM preset stations I think the following will work. On the head unit go to Menu-setup-audio-radio settings-number of radio presets. Set the number to 6. This will, I believe, erase all the preset positions above number 6. Go back to the main audio screen and start reprogramming your favorites up to 6, overwriting any XM stations you may have previously programmed there. Then go back to number of radio presets and increase the number to whatever number of presets you want (in increments of 6, up to 36.) Then continue to reprogram the presets.

I had the same issue, and was tempted by the scorched-earth tactic of “Delete Personal Settings” which would have deleted all the contacts and destinations I had entered, but that would have meant a lot of work to reenter everything. The process I described above or something pretty close will get you there.

I don’t think there is a way to exclude XM from the source rotation when you press the Mode/hold switch.

 

Why do you still have XM channels in your presets if they are so annoying?

 

My trial ends in three days. Is there any way to get SiriusXM to stop calling me?

 

Do you know how to erase them?

 

It requires a human sacrifice.

 

I just reorder the icons for SiriusXM not to be on the first few audio sources. I have USB, Bluetooth, FM radio as first 3. Replaced the radio presets to HD channels if I decide to listen to radio.

Speaking of SiriusXM. Wish they have high quality audio with reasonable pricing.

These days I'm debating Tidal vs Qobuz. I have android phone with USB Audio Pro which can play Bit Perfect mode.

 

You just put something in their place. Tune the radio on a channel you want to have as a preset. Scroll the channel list (without changing the channel that's playing) so you're looking at some presets you want to change. Push and hold the little indicator to the right of the station number on your preset that you want to get rid of. After you hold it for 2 seconds or so, that preset will change to the station you're listening to. Repeat for all the presets you want to replace. In your case, just put something else in place of every XM preset to get rid of them all, and the only way you'll ever hear XM again is by hitting on the XM function button which will play their channel 1 or 2 which is advertising for an XM subscription on a short loop.

However, the first thing you should probably do is figure out how many presets you want - 18, 24, 30 or 36 - then go to the menu under the Audio function that lets you set that. If you currently have 36 presets and only want 18, when you choose 18 it will eliminate whatever you have on the 19 through 36 presets. Then look through the presets you have left and change them to your preferences.

 

When my free 3 month Sirius XM subscription ended my 4Runner was parked for winter so I didn't care. Yes they are persistent and annoying between phone and letter mail. Never pay regular price. The longer I ignored them though the better the deals they progressively offered. By spring I accepted an offer of $6.99 CDN per month for the Platinum Pkg for 1 year. I can live with it for that price. Planning on playing the same game again when it runs out. Just make sure they can't automatically charge your credit card as they will always renew you at full subscription price.

 

Their sound quality seems very good to me, similar to CD quality and a lot better than non HD FM. Their regular price (about $23/month with the package that includes all music channels and just about everything except Howard Stern) is too high IMO, but I've gotten hooked enough on it that I'll probably keep it after the introductory offer I got (one year for $60 instead of the 3 free months) expires. I'm in an area of mostly small to medium size towns where you're losing signals after 20-30 miles and constantly hunting for radio stations. It will be nice to travel cross country without having to look for local stations along the way.

 

I played that renewal contract game with DIRECTV for years. I knew when the contract was going to expire and would call them a few weeks ahead and tell them I was willing to extend for a year or two if they gave me a decent offer. The first person would pass me to a supervisor and they would offer me pricing similar to what I already had and usually a third or so below what it would have rolled to on a month to month deal. Then ATT bought DIRECTV, and when I called to extend they said we aren't offering any deals, here's the high price for everybody. So I canceled. I let XM charge my card every month, but I know when the introductory deal expires. I can pull up my account online and terminate the agreement and their right to charge my card each month any time I want.

 

Replace ≠ erase. Presumably OP has already programmed all the presets he wants. So overwriting the XM presets would mean either duplicating channels that already have a preset or adding new channels that he doesn’t really want.

 

You can reduce the number of presets in the audio menu but as far as I know you can't make a preset blank. So if you have a preset channel that irritates you when you come across it, you can either cut the number of presets or you can put another station in its place, duplicating if necessary. This isn't rocket science.

 

Uh, no. Though channels vary somewhat, SiriusXM from your car is equivalent to 128 Kbps. It's one dimensional, compressed garbage. CDs are 1,411 Kbps.

 

Their audio broacasts of TV shows are even worse. They sound like they are coming out of an empty metal garbage can. The service would have to be free for me to use it.

 

I was thinking to go next level for high quality audio. Basic package of Tidal and Qobuz seems to give high quality audio for not much of money. Having extra 512GB card in addition to phone memory may be I can have the albums locally when I go out of town?

I guess highest quality plan of Tidal may be not be needed. Not sure..

A little out of topic, I was surprised how good the basic audio system (non jbl) in Rav4 Prime SE is vs 4runner non jbl system.

 

Qobuz, but there's only so much to squeeze out of the 4Runner's stock system.

 

I don’t get the xm popping up anymore. I guess I ignored it enough. Lol. I use Bluetooth for my music. Slacker Radio. And I can skip songs with the controller on the steering wheel. Only $19.99 a year too.

 

I have most of my music at CD quality on my phone, and while the bluetooth connection to the head unit is convenient, it sounds like ass too with the compressed signal.

One of the main reasons I installed the Rago dash mount with a Ram X-Grip was to have a fixed phone mount that doesn't consume my cupholder or block AC vents so I can plug my phone in to the auxiliary USB audio port.

The 4Runner's "Premium" sound system is weak enough as it is and doesn't need any more handicaps.

 

I created a login inQobuz and did not buy the plan yet.
I have JBL on mine but I'm not sure how much quality it can give. I guess aftermarket OEM Audio plus or Tacotunes with bigger subs would give more quality, (i guess).
Also my fav songs are only in CD quality, not high res. (Yes, I'm old song lover)

 

I have a predominately FLAC audio database on NAS drives with a ROON controller for home use but I haven't made the transition to portable HD audio yet, partly due to the iPhone and Apple not supporting FLAC.

 

Sorry, didn't mean to turn this in to an audio cork sniffer thread but SiriusXM's abysmal sound quality and their aggressive, persistent marketing is a sore spot. So much potential, so disappointing.

 

That's some surprising data; I didn't realize XM was working with such compressed data relative to other formats. They must be doing something with loudness and compression to fool my ear, but it certainly sounds better than FM in my 4Runner; however I do agree XM's TV broadcasts sound like crap as I've flipped through the channels. As I think about it I'm not really comparing apples to apples. 95% of my music listening at home where I have a couple of reasonably good audio systems (roughly $8-$10K each in components at new prices and some room acoustic treatments) is CDs of classical and jazz. 95% of my XM listening in the 4Runner in the month I've had it has been rock, because trying to listen to classical in a car is an exercise in frustration as the dynamic range is too wide and there is too much noise in even a relatively quiet vehicle at highway speeds between road and wind noise; you have to constantly fiddle with the volume. XM has only one classical station and one station with the kind of jazz I listen to at home, and I haven't listened to them in the 4Runner. The handful of CDs I've listened to in the 4Runner have been classical and jazz, so there's virtually no overlap for me to compare CD quality in the 4Runner to XM quality. I should play some rock CDs in the 4Runner for a better basis of comparison.

I have far different expectations for sound in a car or truck with all the glass, small speakers shoved into small spaces, a listening position where the speakers are all different distances, etc. The JBL system in the Limited is better than I expected, the best I've had in a vehicle, but that's not to say it's close to a good home audio system. I'm not going to go down the road of the kind of car audio projects I've seen some people doing because I'm not convinced any reasonable amount of money is going to achieve that much improvement due to the limitations of the interior of a moving vehicle as a listening environment.

 

No, it’s computer science. Bad computer science. We should be able to see a station list and add, delete or reorder items as we want. The idea that if we want to change the order in which stations appear as we toggle through presets with the up/down buttons (which should really be the left/right buttons - the volume should be up and down) we must reenter some or all of the presets is lame.

 

Don't get me started on the FM tuner in the 4Runner...

I have been down the high-end aftermarket car audio rabbit hole over the decades. When done right, it can be quite excellent and worth every penny.

Sometimes I wish I had a tin ear. It would make enjoying music so much easier, and cheaper.

 

I had Tidal for a while, but moved over to Qobuz. Tidal relies on MQA for hi-rez data compression (though MQA says it is not compressed). It's basically a proprietary wrapper around the music file. I think MQA files generally sound very good, but I didn't like the fact that you cannot know exactly what MQA is doing to the original sound. Plus you need special hardware in order to fully decode an MQA file. Qobuz is straight flac. I've been very happy with Qobuz.

 

You started it! I’ve always found it hard to justify high end audio in a car. Maybe a Rolls or some other marque that goes out of its way to have a quiet interior. But a 4Runner? With the tires whining on the pavement and the motor clattering away like it does? Spending deluxe bucks on high end audio seems like a waste. Is it just a pride of ownership thing or what?

LOL, the best car stereos I ever built were in a beer can, 67 VW and an 80s minivan. The "acoustics" of the cars didn't diminish from the enjoyment one bit. Just roll up the volume. A modern 4Runner is a sound studio by comparison.

 

Sounds like 99% of people, including me, have tin ears by your standards. What kind of money do you have in your home audio system, 6 figures? Audiophilia can be a disease.

 

No, not even close. Maybe just a few grand more than what you stated for yours.

Some of my best sounding car audio setups didn't even cost as much as an OEM Audio 4Runner upgrade. It's surprising what you could accomplish back in the day with a 150 watt Linear amp, an Alpine head unit and a pair of JL Audio 6x9s in a small space.
