I have a 05 4RNR I need to re-boot the CV axles. I want to know if the 5th gen 4RNR boot kit from Toyota has 2 thermo plastic boot per side or just one like the Tacoma kit. Anyone know?
    Toyota OEM pn's:
4th Gen Boot kit: 0442760141 (both neoprene rubber)
    5th Gen Boot kit: 0442760131
2nd Gen Taco kit: 0442804010 (Thermo outer, neoprene inner)

I've tried to figure it out with the dealer with no luck. I rebooted our 11' Taco recently and the kit has Thermo plastic outer and neoprene inner.

@Crikeymike might know. He runs Exit Offroad and also sells CV boot kits

I'm not sure what the OEM materials are, but I can tell you that these are all interchangeable with the Dobinsons stretch CV boots I sell. Probably because of the flex part, the outer size of the boot can be stretched to fit the larger cup sizes, but the inner parts are the same.

    • Suits Lexus GX470, Lexus GX460, Toyota 4Runner 4th and 5th Gen (all from 2003+), Toyota Tacoma 2nd and 3rd Gen (all from 2005+), Toyota FJ Cruiser (all years)

Here's the direct link to those boots: https://exitoffroad.com/?s=Dobinsons+stretch+CV+boots&post_type=product&dgwt_wcas=1

I'd recommend those if you want to retain the stock look, unlike the orange ones I linked earlier from offroadsolutions.com. Dobinsons is quality stuff and @Crikeymike is a stand up vendor, even tho I have not purchased anything from him or Dobinsons yet. Just based off general feedback from here and other forums.

    Thanks man.

Back to the OEM question, my OEM 5th Gen 4runner CV boots from 2014 are still holding up strong (125k miles). I'd suggest getting a set of those if you're after OEM specifically, as they definitely are holding up well. I'd steer clear of an OE Tacoma option, as I hear and see Tacoma guys constantly having to change out their boots.

From personal experience, Japanese rubber gets brittle with time and boots in ball joints and cv axels and all seals, in general starting to leak before 10 years. Inner cv boot is rubber. Outer is plastic. Better replace all rubber after 7-8 years, proactive. Japanese steel is great, they have long tradition to forge good steel.

Except for frames that have a tendency to rust away to nothingness in certain states.

I think those are usually US-built Toyota's, like Tacomas and Tundras.
