Just bought a used 2022 4Runner without heated seats. Was told that I hustled needed to buy switches and that the wiring was under the console and just needed to be plugged in. Is this true, doesn’t sound right to me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome. You would probably need the actual seat with the heating element inside also.along with the switch. And that's at the very least, assuming the same harness is used with the same wiring for the seat.

Welcome. As Steely123 noted, the seats may also need to be swapped out or heating elements out in. Would be interesting if Toyota included the heat element in them, but that’s probably a far reach.

I seriously doubt Toyota would spend the money to install heating elements and wiring in the seat and just omit the switch. I think you were given poor information.

I once owned a Land Rover that had elements in the seats and only needed the switches. It’s easy to pull up the center console and have a look.

I added seat heaters to my 2013 SR5 with cloth seats. There were no heating elements already in the seats and no wiring already under the console. There are several how-to’s on the internet and maybe a video. I studied the how-tos thoroughly before I started, and it made the job go pretty smoothly.

I suspect heated seats is something new in the newer 2023 Models.
Shouldn't have purchased if heated seats is deal breaker. Just my 2cs.

I was conned by my salesman as well. Was a newbie. Demonstrated driving the Part-time 4WD on Dry Payment with a Showroom Demo T4R on a major highway. Ouch

We had heated seats on our 2018 Limited, and now on our 22 ORP

Driving in a straight line on dry pavement or the highway won't hurt the 4WD system. It's how I regularly exercise my Tacomas and my 4Runner every month and have been doing it for years with no issues. You just need to make sure you're under 60mph to engage / disengage.

Tight turns on dry pavement is a different story, that will cause binding and possible damage.

Ok, 50 then which is under 60... usually it will give you a tone if you're going too fast so I will slow down a little more until it engages / disengages. The important thing is to be off throttle during transition but wheels turning.

EDIT: warning label on the visor in my Tacoma says keep speeds below 60mph when switching. I'll have to check what the 4runner says.
