I have a 2022 TRD Off Road Premium.

There is a noise coming from the front drivers side. It is a plastic clicking sound. Not loud but not muffled like it is coming from outside

I think it is a AC Fan impeller hitting the housing. Problem is it is most apparent at speed which is why the wife thinks it is from outside.

I leveled it out with Bilstein 6112 in the front. cut a bunch of lower plastic.

I am looking for ideas to check before I tear things apart.

It could also be the the front wheel well splash guard. I have just gotten fender liners from ARK to improve the protection and also to possibly eliminate the rattling based on this post below.

    https://trail4runner.com/2017/12/17/toyota-engine-splash-guards/

What I can verify, is that if I manually tap on my driver side splash guard, it indeed could be the rattling I hear when driving. It sometimes seems like it is coming from under the dash, and at other times seems to be coming from the within the drivers door. I will be fitting the new ARK liners when I install my lift kit in the next few weeks.

I'll post an update if the new liners indeed eliminate the rattle.

It was the splash guard. When i wiggled it, the splash guard made the squeaky sound that has driven me crazy. The panel retainer clips loosened when I removed the splash guard while doing the lift on my 4runner.
I replaced the panel retainer clips till it got tighter.
Here is the after and the clips I used.

Got a plastic noise from the inside, somewhere around the front area of passenger side. Sound like the dash or headliner area. Driving me crazy and cant seem to find it.

I have an occasional similar sound that I finally tracked down. In my case, it's a small plastic cover piece on the bottom of the driver-side mirror. Tap up on it and see if that's what you're hearing.

I came in here to shout "It's the splash guard or the clips", but many have already beat me to it. I had a rattling that sounded like it was coming from underneath the dash on the drivers side. I saw a post a while back saying it was the clips. Best $10 I've ever spent. For you noobs, your check engine light isn't going to come on if you don't use official Toyota branded clips. Toyota isn't using a special type of plastic made from pixies and unicorns. There's too will get brittle and break over time. Just buy what you can from Joff Bozos's gargantuan store and call it a day.

Where did you purchase this bag of 8MM Nylon clips from. Worth trying

I recently discovered this annoying noise on my wife’s ‘22 ORP. Once you hear it you can’t unhear it and it drives ya nuts! I added the clips to my Amazon cart. Thanks OP!

I checked the Engine Splash on the Passenger Front Side. The Splash was inverted towards the engine and making a lot of noise.
Pushed it outwards away from the engine.
Replaced the pins with some 8MM Clips (from my collection).

I have to wait for a very cold morning to test it out properly. At 54F.. so far no click/click groaning noise. Fingers Crossed.

This worked for me. Thank you for sharing this information and the specific item you ordered from bezosland. The squeaking in my 4runner was driving me nuts and then I did what anyone else would do- browsed the internet, and I stumbled across this thread. The internet can be used for good or evil, and in this case you used it for good. I thank you.
