We currently have 2020 Tacoma TRD Offroad RWD. Were planning on selling the Tacoma now that grandchild is here. Interested in the 2021-2023 4runner limited Nightshade, but AWD is only option other than RWD only. Would like 4runner with safety features "reason for 21-23" with part time 4x4 rather than AWD.
Is there a 21-23 4runner 4x4 part time with blacked out badges, 17"-18" black wheels, brown/tan leather, no hood scoop, frosty looking white color body available? What model would you suggest I start searching. The Pro is nice but we have never gone offroading, may end up in snow country one retired in future.
Dealer has no brochures and no new 4runners, all sold in advance.
    Thank you in advance!

If you don't want the hood scoop, then the SR5 or TRD sport is what you want. I highly doubt you will find leather though.

You almost described my 21 SR5 Premium except the color and material of the seats. They're black and gray fake leather. Otherwise, I have white with the blackout kit that included the black TRD wheels with Terra Grapplers, black out logos, black tube steps. Regular hood with no fake scoop and part time 4 wheel drive.

It looks like the Sport has the most options as far as exterior colors, but none of the available colors are the blizzard pearl you are describing - that is only available on the Limited. That's also true of the tan leather seats - Limited only. The blackout options can pretty much be found as available on all the other models, but can also be done aftermarket.

Finding the one model you like, with all the options you want, is a real crap shoot. Maybe, maybe not.

I just want to comment about the fake leather. My last 2 vehicles, and my wife's last 3, we have had Katzkin leather put in and it's absolutely amazing. That said, I really have no complaints about this fake leather in my 4 Runner. I had already made up my mind that I would put Katzkin in it, but having had it for 2 years I gotta say it still looks great. It's super durable and easy to keep clean. Right now I can't even see it getting "worn out" like we think of cloth getting. Oh, and as was said, the pearl is only available on the Limited. Mine is just white. Hope you find exactly what you want.

Appreciate the updated info Beachguy! . These are things I need to know before jumping in to the purchase. I try searching things online but know this is the place to get real thoughtful information. My plan is to have the 4runner outlast me, so I will be here as long as I'm able to be :).

Welcome. You have it figured out and just need to get past the AWD issue. The limited in blizzard Pearl and redwood interior is an amazing color combination. The AWD setup in the limited trim is also impressive.

Hello steelevo, thanks again. Is the AWD an issue, we live in AZ and not planning on off road driving. If we keep vehicle 10+ years is the AWD something of concern failure/repairs? It is possible we could come across a time to use the 4wheels drive in snow conditions if traveling, but highly unlikely.

Hello skistoy, thank you for bringing this to my attention. So many models I'm unaware of.

AWD and part time 4wd both have a maintenance and potential for failures, especially for someone that doesn’t intend to use it. The part time 4wd has electro-mechanical actuators on the transfer case, and a front differential disconnect that will fail if not used in 10 years. The transfer case actuator is very expensive to fix because it requires splitting the case. The only way to avoid or minimize this risk is to exercise all parts of the 4wd system on a regular schedule per owners manual recommendations.

The AWD I believe does not have the front diff disconnect. Not sure what’s on the transfer case though. I think it has less actuators to worry about than the part time.

There are 2wd 4runners, but I’m not sure about what kind of options are available like leather etc.

McSpazatron Pretty much summed it up. If you rarely use 4WD, then 2WD may be a better option for you. AWD has the 4WD system always active and will require 4LO to be activated and used every month or so. Really easy to do in a straight line in an open parking lot.

For someone that wouldn't mind paying for the benefit of 4wd for the occasional inclement weather, ironically, it may be the AWD system is a better choice than the part time 4wd system. Because even if the actuators fail, you will at least retain AWD capability. There’s the potential for the center diff lock and for 4lo actuator to fail, but AWD with an open center diff is better than a part time system with a bad actuator…because that wont leave you any 4x4 capability.

However, if you regularly exercise the systems, I think a failure in 10 years is much less likely.

I agree with this. It sounds like a Limited is your best option.

I have 2WD and is still VERY capable in light off road conditions. Just didn't see the need of adding the 4wd weight, maintenance, and possible issues from never using it. But I'm in TX, so rain and 2 days of winter a year is what i go through.

I get to fishing spots with no issues and kill it with close to 20mpgs in the city. Lol. (Cuz i drive and get the bird from old people)

There's pros and cons for 4WD on occasion, but 2runners are still very capable.
