    Hello,
I have stumbled into the opportunity to get a Solar Octane Pro at MSRP. Thing is, I am not a huge fan of the color and I spent well over $10,000 upgrading the audio on my ‘21 KDSS Venture. I was also about to get the OME BP 51/UCA setup done. Moreover, back in ‘21 I really was not interested in the Pro owing to my preference for KDSS.

Honestly, the biggest plus to me would be the moonroof. My ORP that lasted 3 days until someone blew a light and it flipped had one and I mostly dug it. Especially as I was living in Humboldt County where it is usually 60 even in Summer.

Beyond the moonroof, dual zone climate would be kewl I suppose. BSM is not a bad thing to have, but after driving for over 20 years, I know to to set and use my mirrors, so…

I guess this finally leaves the Pro’s enhanced resale value. I must say that is pretty impressive. The price delta will not be vast owing to mine only having 20,000 miles, but God do I enjoy the audio setup I have now.
Any thoughts at all would be truly appreciated!

I have a 21 Lunar Rock Pro and love it! But, I definitely would NOT buy a new Pro over what you already have and what you have invested in it. Especially if you don't even like the Solar Octane color - that's crazy talk! Put that new suspension on your current rig and you will be better off in my opinion!

My opinion is try to drive one and see especially when you said "my preference for KDSS". Turn to a side road or in the dealership parking lot faster and see if you like that feel. If you don't like the feel you will regret the TRD Pro. An aftermarket complete audio system + BP-51/UCA setup you may be happy with the '21 Venture.

A minor thing, I hate moonroof. I love a solid roof and extra headroom.

That is my current thinking as well. I was driving along the Pacific last night with all the windows down and with the stereo, it really was epic. Not that I couldn’t have it all done again or have the most expensive components of my current setup taken out prior to selling it.

It is just a pretty rare opportunity to get a Pro at MSRP that gave me pause.

Can't say I would. If I wanted a sunroof I would look for another ORP. Plus you could swap your audio stuff over.

I totally get the moonroof quandary and truthfully it was only when living in Humboldt did I really use one a great deal between the ‘21 GX I briefly had and prior vehicles.

I have driven a few Pros, but all but once on pavement. The Fox setup is nice for sure, but never felt regret for not getting one.

If I spent all that cabbage on good sound, that trumps the moonroof. it would be a no go for me, but I also tried to get my runner without the hole in the roof.

even with a 4Runners potential resale value it is still a depreciating asset and should be treated as such. a color you don’t appreciate is a very difficult thing to live with. anything can happen during ownership and you should be able to completely enjoy the vehicle during that time.

Now that I live in Hawaii, the amount of time I would really use a moonroof is at night so it is now less of a consideration.

When my ORP was destroyed, while I was beyond lucky to immediately find a Venture to get into, the fact it did not have a moonroof did not give me pause.

For sure. I ain’t in this for speculative reasons or I suppose I would have gotten a Pro in the first place as I am pretty good friends with the owner of a couple of Toyota dealerships in California.

This is really just a random opportunity and with weighing the pros and cons, I would have felt remiss not acknowledging the Pro model’s resale value.

Maybe just me, but I don't think a vehicle should be bought with consideration of resale value factoring into the equation! How are you going to use it and like it should be the primary concern. One of the advantages of the Pro for me is that I didn't want to modify it, whereas if I bought a ORP as originally intended I definitely would have been enamored with modifying it. I have no mechanical skills, I would have over analyzed everything, what to get, who to do the work, the cost, the diminished value, the diminished MPG's, etc, etc. Therefore, the Pro was a sound choice for me. The sun roof is a non-factor for me. I like having it, but I see it as something that could just go wrong down the road and I tend to keep my vehicles for a long time. Our Suburban is 21 years old and we siliconed the sun roof closed about five years ago.

Would you also have to pay to ship it to the island?

For me, color preference is a pretty big determining factor for wanting to buy a particular vehicle. You're essentially having to look at this thing EVERYDAY....

    This one is in Hawaii.

For sure about color as this whole conversation started with “If you ever get a Lunar Rock KDSS ORP” as I am a huge fan of that color. Especially when blacking out the valences.

Truthfully, that and Army Green are the two newer colors that I really dig outside of the normal colors.
Toyota would be genius to bring back Quicksand for MY ‘24 as that would definitely get me to jump.

You could always get an aftermarket sun/moonroof installed.

Years ago, my wife bought Camry and really wanted a sunroof. Had one installed after purchase. I was skeptical of how it would turn out, but it worked with no issues for many years.

Nope. But like you, I prefer the KDSS. I am not a fan of moon roofs or the solar octane, though, it's just too gaudy.

I am about to put down the money for the shop to bring in the BP 51 as I really am sold on this setup. The aforementioned accident that totaled my ORP caused me to start with audio as my shoulder was so schwacked that the idea of driving in the rough stuff was laughable. Nowadays, the pain while still there is manageable and I have been off tarmac a pretty decent bit.

Solar Octane is just not my bag as well. My initial reaction when I ran into my friend who offered it to me was no owing to the color. That said, was a mighty kind offer with no markup or questionable accessories.

I think you really have to love the Solar Octane and Lime Rush colors to want that - they are very loud colors! I prefer the subtle Lunar Rock, Quick Sand and Cement.

I dig my moonroof also, but the rip out and re install of the system would negate it for me. But we all have likes and opinions. It's your money.

    Just my 2 cents

Oh yeah. Beat that one on down the line days ago. At MSRP and no accessories, it gave me pause, but Solar Octane just ain’t for me.
