Transfer Case Fluid

I want to drain and fill the transfer case and this 4R is the first Toyota ive ever owned.

I see toyota transfer case fluid for $75 I also see people who add Redline MT-LV fluid. I also just watched Viking Garage where the guy is a toyota mechanic and he just put in 75w-90 synthetic in it.

I have redline 75w-85 fluid can I just use that?

Any brand of off the shelf 75-85/90 gear oil will work fine. Toyota doesn't make their fluids.

This following youtube vid may give some further information. When I got our truck at about 135k miles it had transfer clunk noise when shifting from 4x4 to 2x4 in extreme cold weather, noise was eliminated by changing to Red Line MT-LV.

I’ll be using Redline MTL in mine.

 

Kind of expensive, but a nice kit for diffs and tcase. I may order it when the time comes.
