From an editor of a non-auto magazine...

The Toyota RAV-4 I turned into the dealership last week lasted more than 11 years, which stands as a record for all the cars I have owned (sadly, the only “foreign” automobile ever in my driveway lasted longest). The Ford Bronco Sport includes a number of accessories unknown at the time that RAV-4 rolled off the assembly line. Most annoying of these—and no doubt you’ve witnessed this at a red light—involves a creepy mechanism that shuts off the engine when the brake engages for any period beyond a few seconds. The vehicle includes a camera that shows the rear view on a screen when the vehicle moves in reverse, a push-button ignition, a rotary dial in place of a shift, a movable steering wheel, heated front seats, a sunroof Ford insists on calling a moonroof, a digital gauge estimating miles until empty, Bluetooth that accepts all cellphone calls through the car’s speakers, and an app that tracks the SUV’s location in case of theft and enables the user to turn on the car from miles away. One hesitates to complain at these comforts and gizmos. But some enterprising manufacturer might make a profit by manufacturing a car priced under $20,000 with an AM-FM radio, a heater-air conditioner, a single dome light, and nothing else. People, particularly ones pressed for cash, prefer to manually roll-up their windows, use a stick shift, forgo a rear windshield wiper, and rely on a rearview mirror instead of a computer screen when it saves them $10,000.

I'm missing the part of this that has anything to do with Toyota longevity.

An 11 y/o Rav with undisclosed mileage? That's nearly new.

Other parts of this must of been left out.

It make no sense to start rambling about the Bronco out of no where. Post the whole story.

Sorry. Unfortunately, that was the entire story. Maybe my title was mis-leading. I thought it interesting that the writer was amazed his Toyota lasted 11 years. We, of course would not be surprised. But it wasn't a serious commentary anyway. Just his random thoughts. I wonder if a couple years from now he wishes he had traded for another RAV-4 ? LOL

It always amazes me when someone gets nearly perfect service out of a vehicle but replaces it with a different brand. I think too many people buy based on looks or coolness factor or all the shiny trinkets and baubles found on some cars. To me I like all that stuff but nothing trumps reliability. Not even close.

Doesn't sound like he was amazed the Toyota lasted.

He just said it was personal record for him. More like hes a Domestic fan and the Foreign one was the only thing that lasted.

I don't know, some people just enjoy driving interesting cars. Honestly, this 4Runner is the first vehicle that I bought with reliability in mind. Previous to this, my thoughts were that if it breaks I'll just fix it. I'm just sick of wrenching, which is a big reason why I went with Toyota this time around.

I'm one that always buy's what I want and not really brand loyal. Just so happens what catches my eye is Toyota.

Never had any problems with any vehicle but I've also never kept one for more than 5 years.

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
Even my Jeep was fine for the first five years.
