OR also stands for Oregon, so they all come with rain all over them.

Just don't program your keyfob to open the moonroof, then butt dial it without knowing it during a rain storm, as was pointed out in a recent thread...

Hatch buttons used to only be on the 5th gen Limited but I think most trims have them now (22+).

I tried for an ORP a with out a hole in the roof, couldn’t get one from September 21 to April 22 when I accepted one with moon roof.

Out of curiosity, how wide of an area were you shopping? It does seem like Toyota tends to send more of certain packages to certain areas. I wonder if it's just based on market research or if there's something else to it.

This thread makes me feel fortunate that my dealer was able to find me one without a "hole in the roof" (I like that saying). I only waited 5 weeks to hit the shore and get shipped to the dealer north of Houston. Have had more vehicles with sunroof problems than I can count. After getting a $2700 quote to fix one on a BMW, I'll opt out whenever I can.

Plus - If I want to go topless, I'll take the Jeep for a spin. It sits in the garage with only the bikini portion of my soft top on it.

How many of those were Toyotas? Just curious, because I'm currently on my 3rd Toyota with a moonroof that hasn't leaked. And, I really don't see threads about moonroof problems very often.

The T-tops on my '87 MR2 were a different story, though. :rain:

Exactly zero were Toyotas. Never had a problem on my 4th gen 4Runners. That being said, I never opened them other than to lube the seals and check the drains once a year. The problems were BMWs, Chevy, Fords, and a Volvo. The BMW and Ford are plural on purpose. Enough to make me avoid them, if possible

I see that some folks avoid them just for the extra headroom. It's not an issue for me, though. :D

But, I decided I didn't have to have a moonroof this time, and the 2 in my area with KDSS had no moonroof. I don't miss it much, but sometimes it would be nice. Maybe on the next one.

I have seen threads about them just shattering, that may have been on the taco site.

the dealership I put the first deposit down with, has dealerships in Maine and Mass. Around January I started searching all of New England, and one of the sales folks I was working with wanted to sell me one bad and would search for possibles every couple weeks. I was limiting the colors to Army Green, Luna Rock or Grey. And was also seeking KDSS.

Just a quick search of this forum shows 3 threads about a rattle, one 1st gen with a leak, and no other problems. Must be a Tacoma thing. :notsure:

My ‘20 has them so I’m guessing it’s any model with a keyless ignition that has the buttons.

In my family we’ve had 5 Toyota (highlander, rav4, 4Runner) and 1 Lexus w/ moonroof in the past 15 years and not a single issue

Also, I think the rattle (at least my rattle) is related to the adhesion of the headliner, and how sometimes, the headliner near the hole for the sunroof, seems to lose adhesion, fall a little bit, and then bounce off the adhesive while traveling, causing a snapping sound. So while I love my sunroof, and would definitely get it again, the hole cut in the headliner seems to be causing more issues than the one cut in the roof *shrug*

Not being rude but a majority of the people that work at a car dealership are really not the type of people you would place in important or critical positions. Their job is to sale a car as fast as they can. They are no different then someone that sales a mobile phone. Most are ignorant to what the options are because they only look at high volume trims That make the most profit.

Yeah the buttons on the back hatch are associated with the keyless entry/push button ignition. They are to raise/lower the back window.

They were referring to the buttons on the back hatch for the back window.

@Spare Parts Do you ever notice that sometimes sliding you finder over the "lock" area it doesn't always lock first time? I'd say mine does this almost half the time, drives me crazy.

thanks for clarifying. And honestly, I am not sure I have ever locked it with out using the FOB, I will have to mess around with this.

This drove me crazy along with the long delay. I saw somewhere that if you touch the top and bottom of the handle at the raised bars, almost like you are pinching it, it will lock faster and more reliably. Not sure if it was on this forum or in the owners manual. Either way, that's how I do it now and it works great.

Interesting, I'll have to try this. Yeah the delay is the worst, I'm already a step or two away when I realize it hasn't beeped. If I'm walking towards the back of the car I will just hit the "up arrow" on the back hatch to lock.

For me just touching it will work. Not sure why so many people are trying to swipe it. It’s not tinder.

That's funny. Can't say I ever tried to swipe it but if I just touched the top and started to walk away, about the same time I turned around to go back to try it again, it would lock. Kind of annoying. So the "touch the top and bottom at the same time" took care of that problem.

Are a lot of people swiping? I usually just touch it, but half the time it doesn't lock.
Definitely going to try the pinch though
