Disheartening to just notice this after a few weeks, but has anyone else experienced this with door trim? The upper right corner of driver door trim is not sitting flush with other trim. The rest of the door frame appears flush. no evidence of water intrusion. Passenger side is flush. Carfax was clean on this vehicle.

The top is held in with a push-pin. Hit it with your hand.

Does the top rail of your door look like it’s at the same depth as it is on the rear door and your front passanger door (relative to the body)? It kind of looks like the whole top of the door frame sticks out more than it should. Hard to tell from one pic.

I am sure you have the door closed completely, but it almost looks like it is not from the one pic. I would think that trim if installed poorly would be square at least on one end (top or bottom)

It looks like that corner of the door frame is bent outwards slightly, are they are marks in the door jamb up t here? That’s the weakest point so that’s where you go in from to break in when the keys are locked in the car.

It looks the upper part of the door is sticking out, not just a piece of trim. Could you upload more photos? You mentioned that it had a clean CarFax so it sounds like you bought it used. This is not a previous rental car by any chance? Rental companies don't report damage to CarFax. All rentals come with a "clean" (LMAO) CarFax.

Perhaps at some point they were locked out and had to pry open the top of the frame with an inflatable bag to unlock the truck.

False. That’s not how any of that works.

Maybe the smaller rental car companies have lower resale standards, but the larger rental companies have brand protection in mind and have very high standards for sales to the public.

on top of that - you won’t find a rental company working with a vendor willing to not report or falsify repair records to the state.

back to the OP - if the door frame is straight the it’s possible the clips for the trim may have popped out or failed.

Interesting. Have a look at the links below. Hertz, Avis, Enterprise et al don't report damage to CarFax.

So, those victims of locked keys or criminal minds (haha) that suggested this area being the weakest point were correct. I went back and discovered the paint is scratched and chipped inside the door in certain areas suggesting someone attempted to clothes hanger it. I put my foot on inside bottom left and pulled trim back a bit to where it is now more flush with rear door trim. I may need to fine tune the bend a bit, though.

thanks to everyone for the input.

Roll your window down , stand inside of the door and grab the top edge where it is sticking out and pull toward you . support the bottom of the door with your leg .

i may have jumped the gun reading your post and replying. a reflex of sorts due to my connection to the rental car business.

in short - i will still whole heartedly encourage someone to buy a used rental unit directly from the rental company. the units on the lot meet a high standard.

i will caution anyone that is looking at a car that has a rental and auction history. rentals that don’t meet resale standards are sent straight to auction.

the twist these days is how the pandemic has affected the industry. higher mileage rentals and dealer buy back programs are a big thing. more to be cautious of.
