Off road vs ORP

Does anyone that has an Off-road regret perhaps not getting an ORP?

It appears so close with cloth interior which seems nice in pics. I don’t think I would miss things like that or the home link or lane Change indicators on mirrors.

Just wonder how many on here have an OR and they wish they perhaps wish they got an ORP

 

When I bought mine last June, 4Runners were so back ordered in all the dealerships in my state and the surrounding states, it didn't matter which was "better", I simply got the only one without a 3-4 month wait, and that ended up being the ORP. I didn't know the differences, but the fake leather upholstery is awesome. It's so much more durable and easier to clean than cloth (my previous three Tacos/ 4Runner had cloth), not to mention more comfortable. That one difference alone is worth it to me. I'm glad I got the ORP.

Edited to add: Like FN below me, I have a dog who is my constant companion, and the fake leather is fantastic for dog hair.

 

Can't speak of regrets because I got ORP. But, had it not been for the threads I read about dog hair, I would have just gotten an OR. The only reason I got premium was for the softex seats, which keep dog hair from getting woven into the fabric seats

 

I got the regular OR on purpose to avoid the sunroof. I was a bit surprised it didn't have home link, but no big deal in the end. I’m happy with the trim level. The cloth seats are probably just as durable as the softex. I bet they all get the bolster wear after 100,000 miles.

If you guys leave the rear seats down for a few days or week with Softex in an ORP do they get permanent lines in them being folded down versus say the cloth?

 

I prefer to be called a "well-rounded individual".

Also, didn't realize the OR can't be had with a sunroof. I know there are drawbacks (headroom, leaks, another component to fail), but after reading about how amazing 4runners are with the sunroof open, windows down (optional), and back window down I felt like I needed one. Very happy with that decision because it's my first and I do love it.

No need to point me towards the thread about exhaust getting sucked in and causing health issues blah, blah, blah. I read it - and it probably does get sucked in based on the amount of filth on the headliner (at least road grime is getting sucked in). Apparently it's not enough for me to loose consciousness so... winner winner chicken dinner!

 

I have the base OR and if I get another one it'll be another base OR. The softex just looks and feels like cheap vinyl to me.

 

Never had then down for that long but have put then down a lot for the duration of several trips lasting up to a week. With weight on them. No lines.

 

Negative. I've left mine down for weeks without issue. I've also had car seats sit in one spot for long periods without stretching or distortion.

Softex DOES NOT like sunscreen though. Mine don't look terrible but can see where they were stained. There is a thread about how to get it off but I haven't gotten around to it after a couple of years. It's faint so not terribly annoying, but there

Edit: after having a car seat strapped down tight for over a year I believe they did have "lines". But after a couple of hot summer days they did spring back like a shape-shifting terminator. Speaking of heat, if you live in a hot climate, they don't breath well

 

SR5 non-premium owner here with cloth seats and couldn’t be happier.

Having said that, the Softtex may have the advantage of cleaning.

 

My rear seats are never NOT down. No lines when they are up.

 

Fck.. That's a good point and never thought about it. Till date I love to drive my buddy's SR5 with dark clothe seats over my softex for the comfort and not getting crazy cold in winter. But def cleaning would be a benefit with a dog. I have cargo and seats protector but front seats are not covered. I just use a leaf blower to clean the dog fur. The fabric area on the floor has dog fur stick on to them. Its not practical to fully clean my car. But your point is excellent, fabric seats would be very hard to clean with dog hair.

On another topic yet similar, i wonder why 4runners don't have the option of fabric seats with heating. If I'm not mistaken my same SR5 buddy's Wrangler Rubicon has fabric seats with heating (I think, haven't been in that for months). If I didn't have the dog my fav configuration would be dark fabric seats with heating and no moonroof. My SR5 had light color fabric seats with no moonroof.

 

My ORP doesn't have a sunroof. I thought either trim could come with or without it?

 

I have a OR non premium. I actually wanted cloth seats. I find them to be more comfortable. The only thing I would have liked to have in the premium is the heated steering wheel.

 

I love the softex. Eliminates concern for spills, dirty/oily/muddy clothes, etc. Just wipe them off with a damp wash cloth. Ha I wish the floors were vinyl, too! That would be superb.

I do wonder what would happen if I forgot a nail was in my pocket and I sat down or slid over *just right* so that the nail poked through the vinyl. It’s unlikely to happen. But it might, because I have nails and sharp stuff in my pockets a lot.

 

I believe you can get the trims without the sunroof. It’s difficult to find a ORP without a sunroof though. Trust me, I tried.

 

Hmm, had I know that, it might have been a harder choice. Nah, I’m cheap too.

 

That would be a show stopper for me. Can’t deal with reduced headroom, especially for the rear passengers. I’m curious, can you get a Pro trim without a sunroof?

 

I believe the last year the 4R TRD Pro trim came without a sunroof was in 2015. Starting in 2016 they come standard with a sunroof.

 

I like Softex. Would prefer no sunroof.

 

I tried for no sunroof, after 6 plus months, I decided I can live with the sunroof, which made the wife happy.

I like the Softex, great for sliding in and out with work clothes. When I was initially looking at Jeeps, I was willing to give up not having a sunroof. Wife is happier with a sunroof. Works for us as we’re short

 

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the heated steering wheel depends on year, not trim level. In 2023 all trim levels have it, in 2022 they didn’t.

 

It’s weird on the heated wheel. It shows as an option on the ORP and not available on an Off Road. This is when you compare the trim levels on Toyota site.

Also it looks like you can only get a sliding cargo tray on an ORP if you get a package with with various combos of running boards, moonroof, or the mtm camera

 

I have a ORP. Not by choice but because after almost a year my dealerships were not getting any OR’s. Seems Toyota due to chip shortage etc they focusing on putting out more higher end trims loaded with unnecessary options to help profits.

After long wait I just caved and got the ORP.

with that said I do like the blind spot monitoring, heated seats and steering wheel and wipers and side mirrors

not the biggest fan of the softex but definitely easier to clean. I don’t have pets, kids etc so cloth would works for me

the backup camera quality sucks. Toyota for some reason cut corners somewhere and image quality has gone down from previous year models.

 

I got my ORP in 2019 so no nanny systems thank god. But i went with the ORP for the softex seats for durability and ease of cleaning, heated seats/mirrors/WS... No sun roof in mine though, but didn't want/need that.

IMO 2019 was the 4R's sweet spot before getting too much techy/nanny stuff.
