sounds like you need to take it to a mechanic.

or stop hitting the shifter into neutral

If it was a manual transmission, I’d say bad clutch. Could it be transmission slippage?

It says 2014 so I was assuming Auto.

Based on the general questions nothing she can really do on her own.

It’s a 4Runner, so I assumed auto, I’m not sure when runners stopped coming in manual. Agreed, needs to find someone more qualified, but if it’s transmission, then she should consider looking for a transmission shop.

Aliens are trying to abduct you when you drive above 50 MPH.

Get your 4Runner scanned for trouble codes and have the transmission fluid checked within the specified fluid temperature range. If you drop the 4Runner off while the engine is at operating temperature, it may take a few hours to cool down enough to properly check fluid level. Take it to someone who already knows this.

Thanks for all advice. I drove on the highway again and nothing happened. Today I could feel it losing power , but not the same as before. I will check fluid and hope it might be that simple a solution

I'd suggest getting it check ASAP before you get stuck on the road.

Thanks. I will call my mechanic. But I will look at transmission fluid!
