    Was looking on one site that lists tow capacity of 5th gen as 5000 lbs except years 2014 and 2015 and some 2016 models as 4700 lbs and wondering what is different in those years and models that reduces capacity.

    What does your owners manual say?

    There was some confusion for those years with Toyota's numbers and the SAE standards, I forget what the actual discrepancy or error was.

    The 2014 4runner manual gives a Trailer Weight Rating of 5000 lbs.
