    Hello all first post here!
My Wife is Dead Set on a 4Runner. We have been looking in the used market for a 14-16 4Runner SR5. This search has quickly narrowed to 2015 and 2016 models. Can anyone tell me the short answer why the 2015 models seem to hold their value a little better than the 2016? I have been a dedicated Subaru guy for the past 3 years, So i know my car inside and out. I imagine the 4Runners are similar and a lot of the big differences between the two are NOT on the surface. Is there anything I should look out for/stay away from or otherwise be concerned with while searching for the right 4Runner? Thanks in Advance I look forward to learning about and moding the 4Runner we are about to buy.

we have been keeping in simple and just going for the 2WD SR5 in both years. For some reason though ill find a 2016 and 2015 with similar miles and they will literally be listed with in a couple hundred dollars of each other. Also when I go look up the value of the two the KBB or NADA value of the 2015 is usually higher. i was curious of some of the more in depth differences that might affect this. may the Diff or trans was better on the 15 or maybe the 15 just has less problems...

:canada:We bought a new 2016 4R SR5 4x4 Trail last September and. to date, it has been absolutely trouble free. I've no idea how it would differ from a 2wd SR5, but we do love the rig. - Ted

do you have links? These things hold value like crazy and like the tacomas often you will find used models priced very close to new. There could also be the difference if one having KDSS and the other not or some option package that the other does not have.

There were no changes from the 15-16 models, the price difference is just usual used car price hijinks by dealers I think. I see the 2015 has the 3rd row, I'm not sure what option package but that might account for some of the price difference too. Any idea if either of them came from rental fleets?

I'm not saying he will have issues either, but the recommendations on having it checked out at a Toyota dealer are pretty good. There might be others in there but I can't remember.

Yeah the 2016 i linked above. the Sales guys didn't want me to take it to mechanic until after i bought it... one more reason i wont be dealing with them. the 2015 im going to see today is too far from my usual Mechanic so ill have to wing it.

Ok so we bought the 2015 with 49K on the odo! It has a Revtek Lift on it and it's CPO with a 100K power train warranty. I think i could have maybe gotten them a little lower on price but they came WAY up on our trade in. in fact im quite certain they lost money on that Jeep. I need to do a little research for Mods and also try to nail down the details on this lift kit. Any suggestions on quick easy Mods or Must haves for this 4Runner? thanks again for yall input.

What do you intend to do with it? There is no "one size fits all" mod.

Mountain biking, camping, fishing and all around outdoorsy type stuff. I already have a Bike Rack. Ive been searching through the Roof basket threads here. I guess what im more intersted in are a few option that were not included that may just need to be "Turned on" so to speak. I know she would like seat heaters. If that car was not optioned with it, would the seats still have the heaters and just need to be hooked up? I'll start searching through the forum and see whats up. I can already tell i picked a good active forum for the 4 Runner

    Seat heaters, negative.

I would suggest you review the listing of options you can have enabled via TechStream or the Carista app, like deactivating seat belt alarm, or programming the remote to open the windows, etc. Those are really the only hidden nuggets.

For exterior mods, if you don't have specific plans but are ourdoorsy, I'd go with better AT tires, that's probably it. Interior maybe a console organizer, tint, all weather mats... that's a good start to cover your uses.

Thanks MeefZah! we ordered the Weather-techs last night. They were actually cheaper than Husky liners. Front Window tint will probably be next. AT Tires will come when we need a new set but the ones that came on it are practical new. Ill check out the apps too. thanks for the info.
