Key fob without rear hatch open

Hi..My 2021 4 runner key fob does not have the button to open the rear hatch. can i purchase a new key fob that has that feature; i cannot believe the key fob just has lock and unlock and no button to open the rear hatch. thank you for any info.

 

So you have a Power Rear Hatch and it doesn't work from the key fob?

 

There is no rear hatch button. you unlock the car, then pull the hatch open from the switch/handle.

I have to think if Op has an auto rear hatch it would have to have its own fob? OEM fob doesn’t have a hatch button and auto tailgate is not an option from toyota

 

Agreed. Was just trying to understand the question. Maybe the OP has an aftermarket hatch opener.

 

When you press unlock button 2 times it unlocks all doors including the hatch. Don't really see the issue : )

We're here to help, but since a 21 4R can't have a powered liftgate from the factory it'd have to be one of the add-on/aftermarket kits and we'd have no way to address how to operate one of those without knowing what brand it was. I do know that one of them (based on the YouTube vid I've seen) requires you to hit your unlock button on your FOB 3 times (basically the same as you do for the remote start but on the lock button). Might try that and see. Good luck!

You know, it would be nice if Toyota did have a power lift gate on the remote. That would be sweet!

I had power liftgate on rental Cherokee and frankly I didn't like it. By pressing button it opens slower than if you open it manually and it you lift it by hands you get more resistance from its electric motor. To me it's not something I would be willing to pay for. Heated steering wheel is way more useful : )

 

it does not have a power release from inside or on the fob of which i am really surprised; if i had known that i would not have gotten the vehicle. i wrongly assumed it did because older vehicles have it!

no power hatch at all; not even a button inside; i just bought this and i if had known this i would not have purchaed it;i assumed..which was wrong, that it had a button inside to at the least release it; ;many older vehicles have that!!!! live and learn!!! always ask!

 

It seems like OP was talking about a button to open/close the rear hatch automatically.
The 4R does not have this feature. The options are to go with an aftermarket install or get a different vehicle depending on the needs. If off roading is not needed, the Highlander is a great (possibly better) alternative

 

I probably wouldn't have purchased my 4 Runner if it HAD a power rear hatch. lol

 

I was only joking. I am pretty sure the GX450's have that.
