I've noticed a vibrating feeling when I am driving between 30 and 40 MPH. If I accelerate quickly it does not happen. If I let off the gas it stops. I just had the tires balanced, transmission fluid changed, and diff fluid changed. New brakes/rotors as well. Any thoughts? This is on a 2013 4Runner SR5.

Where do you feel the vibration, steering wheel or in the seat or both ? How old and what type of tires ? Does the vibration happen in 2WD or in 4WD or both ? When were the prop shafts last greased ? How many miles and what model of T4R, lifted or stock ?

Mostly in the steering wheel. Tires are about a year and a half old. Tires are bf goodrich all terrain ko2. I only notice in 2WD but have not placed it in 4WD much lately. Not sure when the prop shafts were last greased. 180,000 miles on SR5, stock.

Steering wheel vibration is often front tires, try rotating front tires to the back. Front and rear prop shafts and u-joints should be greased at least once a year, about every 15k miles unless driving through streams and such frequently, there's a couple of youtube sites on how to grease 4R shafts correctly, not too much grease etc.

Upper control arms , ECGS bushing
Possibly that bushing in the front differential. My 2022 had a light vibration and growling noise at 30-40 mph. Replaced bushing, problem solved. I didn't feel like playing games with the dealer so I did it myself

Do you think this could be a transmission issue?

Have you tried shifting into 4HI yet to see if the vibration goes away? Doing so is the easiest way to confirm or eliminate one possibility.

I tried shifting into 4HI and still did the same thing. I have noticed that when I place it manual shift it does not happen. Any thoughts on that?

Did you end up figuring out what the issue was? My 4Runner is doing the same exact thing.

That's odd. Does it worsen under load at lower RPM? And improve when you wind it out to a higher RPM?

Check torque on your lower control arm cam bolts. That solved the problem for me.

How often (miles) do you balance and rotate your tires?

It’s those BFG’s. I had 3 sets, all did the same. After balancing they would be great for a week or so, then shakes again. Most techs don’t use the balance machines correctly either. Switched to Toyos, no issues.
If new tires aren’t an option, @nimby posted a write up on how to get a proper balance…it’s worth a read.

They are problematic sometimes, but it’s not all bfg ko2’s. I have some on my T4R with 46k and have no issues. Road force balanced and checked/ rotated every 5k.

I didn’t say all, but more often than not we find posts on both forums of people with KO2’s that won’t properly balance. That being said, I acknowledge that other brands may have this issue, and some people experience the vibrations with their factory provided tires…

However, in my experience, employees at the tire shops I’ve worked with claim that KO2’s & Falken’s are more prone to balancing complaints. They often take more weight & effort to balance out, and inexperienced tech’s trying to pump out installs will frequently use a “smart weight” approach that isn’t reliable.

I don’t have technical data on this; my feedback’s limited to personal experience & discussions with technicians, mechanics, and consumers in the past few years of modifying my 4R.

I definitely acknowledge that you didn’t say “all”. I just clarified because some may take it as such. Also, I definitely agree with the remainder of your posting!
We are on the same page.
I guess, I got some good ones and also, my tech is very good at keeping them in balance.

    :)
