I have gone thru all the possible settings here because we went Ice Fishing and I wanted to make sure I was good to go... oh I am not a huge fan of Ice fishing when the Wind is blowing so hard you can't stand, Sit or keep the hut up yet everyone wants to catch another trout....

Well, the rear locker is designed to be used for longer periods of time than A-TRac and Crawl control. So yes, definitely use the locker during difficult off road terrain and use A-Trac and the rest as needed.

On the other hand, A-Trac and Crawl Control are idiot proofed and the consequence of using them too long is that they turn off automatically. The consequence of overusing the locker is potentially mechanical breakage.

That's good to know they turn off, A-Trac would beat the hell out of the pads and rotors if it didn't. lol Guess I wont be using crawl control for down hill descents then, would be scary to have it disengage.

Make sure you don't use crawl control down hill!

Never herd of overusing a rear locker, or one failing do to using properly on an off road trail for a long time. But in most cases you wont need the locker the entire time.

Something tells me it would have to be a very long descent before that would be a worry. And it wouldn’t surprise me if the system gave plenty of warning before it disengaged. I can’t imagine there’s not some sort of failsafe.

You’re right. I expressed myself poorly. It’s not so much that the locker should be used briefly, but rather judiciously. The consequence of non-judicious use is a broken axle or spider gears, owing to extra stresses along the rear axle. The challenging part is that the driver has very little feedback regarding the amount of wind-up in the axle, so judiciousness manifests itself as brevity.

Thank you for the clarification. Ill definitely have to look into the crawl control cut off since my primary reason to use it would be for a steep down hill decent. Maybe it just comes to a complete stop?
