I am trying to figure out a solution to the tailgate window. The pocket thing that holds the glass and pushes it up and down was missing when I got this vehicle, and I was excited when I found a parts vehicle that the tailgate wasn't completely rusted through, but alas, bar was not so lucky. And thanks to the age of these vehicles you can't really find these parts anywhere. So anybody got ideas on how to make something work for relatively low cost..? Please help!

The first rear gate glass I got had no channel. So I took the rear glass out of the 01 sequoia, knocked off the window bracket, and e-epoxy it to the 89 glass. I made sure to mark on the glass where the regulator wheels traveled in and out. It worked for months, but one side came apart. I was going to try another adhesion.

I also looked for the brackets online and found these on ebay, https://www.ebay.com/itm/Toyota-4ru...hannel-Repair-Kit-90-91-92-93-94/283702949119
They are for second gen, but I thought I might try em out. For 80.00 I'd go find used though.

Thanks for the info. Trust me, I wouldn't be looking for a Jerry rig solution if I had the option of an original part. But I live in Alberta, which means lots of salt on icy roads which results in all the 4runners around here having rusted out tailgates and fenders and therefore no regulator bar to be found.

I'm in the same position with my tailgate window. Both of the channels rusted out and fell off. Here's what I've learned:
    1. The rear window parts have been discontinued.
    2. I've called YotaYard and Jims in Denver. Both said that they only can get them used, already adhered to the glass. They can't source them any other way, and they don't have any of the rear windows in stock.

I'm hoping that someone on here might have a fix for this. I'm curious if anyone has tried using the 2nd Gen channel set (link above in 35tacundra's post?

I kept checking kijiji for 4runner parts and got lucky in the fall that someone happened to post a rear window from a first gen 4runner that had the mounting bracket thingy still attached so I bought a back window, just to get the brackets, still have the one that came with the vehicle, it is just missing those tracks...not sure where in the world you live, but if you still need the actual glass I might be willing to part with it, depending on what I do with my parts vehicle...tempting to fully restore it. additionally, I have found OEM parts from a couple sites....i know the ones i have been looking at the last couple days had the front windshield, and other windows, unsure if they still have overstock of the back window but check it out if you would like. https://www.toyotapartsdirect.ca/ https://parts.toyota.com/

All I can say about my experience with this thing thus far is to keep looking for parts on sites like Kijiji, cause every once in a blue moon you get lucky...I now have 2 different centre consoles to replace the one currently in the vehicle, and the only issue with the current one is the lid and hinges are wrecked. And despite 4runners being excessively rare around here I found an '84 that had all the windows smashed out but the other parts are in great shape....but you get lucky if you keep an eye out....just don't expect anything to be found quickly. lol

oh and check the pick-n-pull database...first gens are rare, but I saw one in California once...and i have noticed that the american pick and pulls get a lot more of the 4 runners in general so you might have luck there.,

just remembered today. before I mounted my rear window I took pictures and measurements of the tracks so that if i ever needed to create my own part that I would have the basics. Let me know if that would be helpful at all and I can dig up the photos and measurements and post them.

    Hi,

I realize that this is an old thread but if you by chance still have the pictures and tracks, I would really appreciate it if you could post them. I have run into the same issue with my 06 4Runner and would love to fix it. I would like to see if I could design a part to replace them.

    Thank You!

Hey, you've posted on the 1st Gen thread so you might want to post in the 4th Gen thread since the parts are completely different.
