What is this tray for

What is this tray for. I have. 23 limited and this tray seems useless. Can it be replaced for a cup holder or something?

On a separate note, has anyone installed a power lift gate on their 4Runner?

 

That entire console section is all 1 piece.

 

It's where the manual 2H, 4H, N and 4L would be in other models. Looks like they just made it into a shallow tray for certain models that don't have it. Looks like a simple supplement for that spot. Same as I would imagine for switch blanks. Same piece and just toss a blank in it so they don't have to press another part.

 

I’m assuming that you have a 2 wheel drive Limited? That area is normally where the 4 wheel drive knobs / levers would be. As it is now, like you say it’s just a tray. Most of us that have 4wd models would appreciate having a little extra space to put stuff in.
There’s a thread in this forum about installing an aftermarket power lift gate but from what I remember I don’t think it works all that well. Try using the “Search” function and the thread should pop right up.

It's one of those "you figure it out" things that Toyota does like the cubbies in the lower dash.

 

Do they make a 2WD Limited?? I thought only the SR5 got that distinction.

 

I didn't think so, but it turns out they do. That is the console of a 2WD Limited.

Full-Time 4WD on the Limited is a $1,600 option. That's a bargain if you ask me.

Burger and fries fit in there nicely. Done it plenty of times.
