Today I got the chance to put my 4runner a dyno to see some numbers.

These numbers are not 100% stock but almost.. The only "performance" mod is a injen intake. Other then that is stock. No tune.

I'll have more charts when they email them to me but heres one.

    Screenshot_20230119-150125_Gallery.jpg

Sorry for the horrible picture. I'll attach more then

    Numbers 239hp/259lb/ft. I'm somewhat impressed.

12% loss is really not that bad from our transmissions.

We did not see any gains at all during our testing with the 4Runner and our 3G which use the same filter/airbox even at 373whp in our S/C 3G. We've performed this test on both platforms with the same result. 0 net HP gained.

See our results for the 360+whp runs here:

Don't these numbers seem high for stock though? What intake did you test out?

Also with the 2020+ 4runner 4x4(not limiteds) put it on a 2wd dyno you need to pull the rear speed sensor plug. Or else you'll need a 4x4/awd dyno

That's what the vehicle tested put out, SAE corrected to J1349 Standards. This is after all a VERY well cared for and low mileage unit. I'd not be surprised if it is on the higher end of what these units are capable of. I don't think there's any reason to think your numbers are bad. Looks like you've got one that runs pretty well too.

The intake tested is simply the OE intake with open lid and w/ no filter (zero restriction).

The 2020+ models can be dyno'd in 2wd mode without any issues. Simply need a gear-lock tune to be able to go WOT without the ECU commanding a downshift.

Thanks for the information! Yeah I think the numbers are great!

This is the intake I have, with the plug in the front removed

I don't know.....I have a hard time believing that the intake will give you that kind of extra performance. Then again, there are plenty of factors on performance, octane, elevation, all that stuff adds up. But good info anyway. If you are happy that's what counts anyway.

In my experience with cars, dynos are like mpg ratings. It may not be accurate but it gives you a consistent baseline for comparing to other vehicles or measuring change (improvements or worsening). If anything this gives a good baseline for any future mods. Be interesting to see what the numbers would look like with stock wheels, to see what the loss is with your current set up.

It was my T4R on the dyno with @JustDSM. totally stock intake on mine. Your stock numbers are very close to ours. Mine was 241HP/252TQ on 91 octane here in UT. Our data was SAE Smoothing 5, so make sure when you get your data the shop has SAE smoothing. It accounts for temp, elevation, etc.. and normalizes the data. Makes it a more accurate comparison.

Curious how you gearlocked it without tuning software, and what fuel octane you were running? Regardless, nice pulls, good data!

This post has my T4R data, stock and tuned. 265/70/R17 TRD wheels and Cooper AT3 C-load tires (46 lbs each).
    https://www.4runners.com/threads/overland-torque-tune-ott-by-overland-tailor.27827/#post-386895

@hossler1788 pulls seem consistent with mine but with bigger tires, so curious about what fuel octane he was running for the dyno, if he’s on 93, odds are good his timing is more advanced. 91 is as high as we can get out here ar 4000+ feet elevation.

    Utah eh? Cheers.

Davis County here..... isn't all this precipitation great !!!!. We need it bad. I'm sick of seeing all the reservoirs/rivers lower now, than ever, in my time here. Blows,.. I hate seeing it. Anyway, cheers my guy, and happy adventures out there.

The 93 likely is allowing your ECU further advance timing and get more power for the bigger tires, thus giving similar performance to my vehicle on stock tires and 91 octane. As @JustDSM has explained on the OTT tune thread, these trucks are sensitive to fuel octane and it does impact performance. As long as your dyno shop sends you data with SAE smoothing, it will account for elevation, temp, etc.. and normalize the data, it’s the best way to get apples to apples data when comparing to other dyno pulls on different days, etc…

**edit**Here is a link to the post explaining how octane can impact performance:

Don't take this the wrong way, but a single dyno pull tells us very little. Unless you have back to back runs with stock and air box versus your intake there's no way to know exactly what, if any, improvements it gave. Dynos are great at showing the delta in performance changes but their readings are not universal. I've been around performance vehicles for decades and a MAJOR misconception is that all dynos read the same. That's not true.

You are correct. But I don't plan on adding crazy performance mods so I highly doubt ill ever dyno it again. If I did though I would use the same dyno

I use to build fd rx7s. So this isn't my first time dynoing a vehicle.

I somewhat agree but there are some “if’s” that can enable decent comparisons between dyno pulls on different days.

If you go to the same dyno, if the dyno shop maintains and calibrates their dyno regularly, and if you apply SAE corrections to your data, you can get decent, comparable runs on different days.

If you bounce between different dyno shops, best you can hope for is oranges to lemons comparisons. My $0.02 on it.

Cool. I meant no disrespect and since you've been around you know exactly what I mean. It's just all too common to come across people that aren't aware of this or even worse deny it. I appreciate any and all info given as I'm very data driven while doing my research.

Side note...did you mess around with the rotaries or focus on swaps. We did a LS swap many years ago on my buddies FC and I think I loved that car more than he did. Haha. That thing was a hoot on the road course.

    Of course, completely agree.

It far too common to come across your last statement on the internet where people just don't understand how to properly use the information the dyno gives us. You see guys in different parts of the world trying to argue about setup and numbers when its just an exercise in futility.

13b rotary! Then that shit got real and I had a kid so I sold the "toys". But yeah I had mild build, my last one dyno'd at 375hp/275lb/ft at 12psi. But it ripped.
