    Sadly probably.

Hey, all those people who think EVs are going to give them an alien style anal probe have a state to move to now, at least.

Technology and infrastructure not being there yet? Fairly accurate.

    Smart? Inaccurate.

Weren't you banned? It looks like you and EVs in Wyoming have a lot in common!

Oh boy, this is going to become one of those political topics.

Here's my piece then I'm done. I don't need to get banned for political crap. ICE isn't great for the environment, and if you deny it then you're ignorant. Current EV technology isn't perfect, but it is a step in the right direction that this Wyoming crap is trying to trip up by inhibiting freedom of choice for their citizens. I can understand Wyoming's concerns regarding their economy, but they're already pretty damn irrelevant of a state to most of the country, right or wrong. EV battery recycling potential is huge. Don't believe the anti-hype. They already do it with Prius batteries. Wind farms, solar farms, and (next generation) nuclear are awesome. I'd love to have some of that in my back yard. (Well, maybe the nuclear could be a few yards away, but still.) Yo momma had more nanny state control over you than any EV ever will. And if you're not down with that, I've got three words for you: Move to Wyoming.

It was just simple logic and not political. I seem to recall a saying that ends with “they will beat you with experience”. You win.

    In before the shutdown.

I don't think banning EV's or ICE vehicles is a good idea. EV's serve some people very well, but still aren't ready to replace ICE's. I don't think the government should be trying to force people to buy either one.

I see the appeal of a hybrid but not fully electric. Here is a realistic scenario. What happens if we all move to EV and the power grid goes down in your area for a few days due to a natural disaster?

Same thing if you were low on fuel for your ICE.

It’s good to see a government actually looking out for their peps. And I don’t think they will ban EVs, but this is more of a push against the EV mandates that other states (and probably the feds soon) are forcing.

We own a plug in Hybrid, that gets about 45 to 50 miles per charge. Due to the short commute, it’s great for us. However, many folks who live in rural places might drive 50 miles to work one way, if not more and I would assume Wyoming is pretty rural. City dwellers are where the EVs should shine and as tech and infrastructure builds others can jump onboard. The problem is city dwellers think they know the rest of the country and what’s best for the rest of the country.

This came up in another thread. The main difference is that some fuel stations have backup generators. Those generators will be sufficient to run the pumps, but certainly not run a bunch of EV chargers. And, even if you can charge at a gas station, it will most likely be at the slowest rate.

Also, people don't fuel up their ICE vehicles at home, so you potentially have more range to start, especially if you are prepared and have extra fuel in containers in your garage.

These are all good thoughts. If I went full EV, then I would definitely consider a backup home generator, that would be sufficient to charge the car.

A backup generator that works on what? Gas, diesel, natural gas? Why not just have an ICE vehicle with a full tank? :boink:

    Both.

Why do anything that might actually help people in your state when you can waste time owning the libs?

It's just symbolic though. They interviewed the person that proposed this, he said he wasn't serious, it was just a gesture in response to California's upcoming ICE ban in 2035. He said that he wants Wyoming residents to be free to drive whatever sort of vehicle they want, whether it be ICE or EV.

In all fairness, having an EV would suit our family well. A lot of our driving (now that we both work from home) would be within 15-75 miles from us and we could use 0 gas. Unfortunately we also drive a lot of back roads that can become flooded or have occasional to frequent (not this year) winter storms that necessitate AWD/4WD. For those reasons we traded my wife's TSX for my 4runner and she took the JGC. We also take road trips where I would prefer ICE.

We don't always need two SUVs, but sometimes do so we have them. I just can't justify the purchase cost and insurance on a 3rd vehicle just to save on gas and have the SUVs sit for long periods without being driven.

I would love to have proven hybrid drive trains for the SUVs - to me that's the best compromise for us

I commute 30 mi each way to work, an EV would be great for that. Unfortunately I'm an apartment dweller and have no place to plug it in. I also don't want to pay 30 or 40k for one either, haha.

I agree that a hybrid would be great. But something that gets good mileage, like a RAV4. The hybrid tundra and Sequoia are kind of silly in that they still get worse economy than their V8 competition.

Speaking of hybrids, I really wish they would push those more while the infrastructure and everything is worked out for EVs.

That would seem the sensible stepping stone. Hybrids have been out for quite a while from some manufacturers but don't think they had the popularity expected. Maybe that's why there is the push to full EV? As far as laws go banning ICE or EV in the push, I think the free market has always been a better decider of what's best for consumers.

I've installed a lot of Kohler and Generac standby units, and a few Briggs and Stratton. These things are fantastic, especially if you live in an area where outages are common.

Keep in mind, it will probably cost about the same as much, or possibly more, for installation as you spend on the generator. Sometimes it could be less, if it's an easy installation.
