I want to regear and lock but at the same time I want to have money to travel around Europe while I'm over there for a year

pshhh you didn't say it was 5 pages, child's play.

Tough call, I'm debating that right now too - Europe in June or Winch and Radio in June... or just go full yolo and do it all and eat mac n cheese for 3 months

I agree for the most part, but if you find a good, OEM looking spot to mount the scan gauge, it's not too ugly, and most likely not blocking the windshield.

All OEM (style) buttons, and I actually, at some point want to make a panel for more where the bolt to pull the HVAC display unit has that little compartment. I like nice looking, OEM styled, MATCHING interior. Not an empty one, but not a super cluttered ugly one.

Any disadvantage to doing so? I was leaning yes. I also need new lower heims and heim spacers as well as topmount hardware - looking at 400ish + shipping + maybe springs to gte these running again

Not really. All they do is swap out an internal spacer for a smaller one. Should be minimal cost/free. I'm pretty sure you have UCA's already, so why not?
