I am having issues with my power door locks on my 2000 4runner. The power door locks did not work when I got the car, so I replaced the blown fuse and it just blew again. The locks work when the car is on but also seem to run out of power after being locked and unlocked a few times. Any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks

If the fuse is blowing fairly quickly after replacing. You can install a circuit breaker in place of the fuse for testing only. First start by attempting to narrow down which part of the circuit is the incriminating actor, from that point attempt to narrow the issue further down to a specific portion of the circuit, via disconnecting items/connectors. The circuit breaker will reset to allow further diagnostics. It will reset after several seconds to allow further checking. Always use the amp rating for your circuit.

Going old school, you can also use a compass to follow wiring harnesses when the circuit is active (before the breaker kicks) when you encounter the wiring issue, It make the compass jump very noticeably. I have not checked to see if there are any videos on you tube to link to for this test, This was a trick an older tech showed me about 30 years ago. Can also use an AM radio in a similar fashion, Amazing what a magnetic field can interfere with.

You can also wire in a 10, 15 or 20 amp circuit breakers in an attempt to save fuses during diagnosis. I had a standard 15 & 20 amp set up just for this type of trouble shooting.

The main goal is to narrow it down to a certain section to further dial in on your issue.

I had realized I was a little vague last night when typing that up. Might have had something to do with New years, But I made a few edits to my rambling bits to try and make it a little more legible. Heck I couldnt understand a few things I had typed!

    Good luck!

Remember the first rule of fuses: Fuses do not blow for no reason.

    You have a short somewhere.

You need to get a wiring diagram, and look and see what devices are on that circuit. Then you disconnect each one until the fuse stops blowing.

Like was said, if you have a circuit breaker wired up in place of the fuse, it will save your fuses.

Not finding this issue and just replacing fuses is a fast way to burn your car to the ground.

For the short term, while you try to figure it out, remove the fuse and leave it out so that circuit isn't going to cause a fire.

I have a '99 4runner with the same problem. They work fine the first time, but won't move for multiple cycling. My solution = unlock the rig and get in and don't mess with the locks again until you get out. And then lock it and walk away.
