It is a 2020. I did quite a bit of looking.

EDIT- I see an orange one at the place I got mine. Call and offer MSRP. When they start talking, just tell them you want a yes or no answer. If not move on and ask them to not call you. If they say yes, they will still try to nickel and dime you. It's up to you how much BS you are willing to put up with. If there are any dealer options already installed, they will want you to pay for that too.

You might still want to put some money on to it. Atleast a good tire for the spare. TRD Pro only get main wheels and tires at the port. Spare tire is still same all season as they come from Japan.

For my traveling even the stock Nitto Terra Grapplers were no good. So I sold all 5 tires and got new ones.

My TRD Pro also needed wheel alignment and tire balance as when parts installed here in USA they must have skipped these items.

Since I do like to drive at night I had to do light upgrade as well.

Atleast for me TRD Pro was not good enough right off the lot. It needed work just like other 4runners. Just sharing my opinion if you are new to 4runners.

I have a 2021 Lunar Rock Pro that I paid $2,000 above MSRP ($54K) and I love this thing. I plan to keep this 4R for at least 12 years. I like the way it looks, rides and drives. Almost 20 months old with 33,300 miles and not one single issue. This vehicle fits my purposes perfectly and the only thing I have done to it is remove the Predator Tube Steps and remove the rear seats. I want to remove the Pro roof rack and I don't care for the Pro TRD exhaust - but I have become accustomed to it.

If you want a Pro go for it! If I wanted a 4R for more aggressive four wheeling adventures I would buy a TRD ORP and modify it!

I’m very familiar with that hellish stretch of road. I understand your concern.

You mean, except for the ones that kmeeg spoon fed you above? Or did you mean it’s impossible to find one for MSRP at the 2 or three dealerships within convenient driving distance from your home?

Advertised online price isn't the real price. Call and ask what their market adjustment is. Call another and repeat. No one is selling new TRD Pro's on lot for MSRP.

Yes, I believe the pros are limited, as in the produce way less of them.

Did you call and confirm that? I know some members have bought PRO's at MSRP.

The ones that have bought at MSRP was years ago and some were actually sold as used with miles on them. Bronco folks are doing the same thing. Ordering and reselling trying for a profit.

The past year or 2 hasn't been good for anyone buying cars. People paid markups on every trim. I was thinking the market was starting to right itself.

I guess you either have to wait, or pay the markup. Or, keep looking for one at MSRP. Good luck!

Edit: I can't believe anyone is still overpaying for those Broncos, with all of the quality issues they're having. o_O

I'll wait and give my dealer time to get one from Toyota. They said no dealer are trading TRD Pro's right now. I may start calling around again around tax time and see how the dealers are.

I got my answer to limited production numbers and time estimates pretty much.

Don't believe anything a dealer tells you. They will say anything to get you to drive away in whatever they have in stock. They will also act like a Pro is as rare as a Ferrari. They are not, they're everywhere.

    Persistence pays off.

    Good luck!

I purchased a new 22 TRD Pro at MSRP a few months ago in upstate NY, although it might have been the Lime Rush paint that kept it at that price point.

I suppose every vehicle is technically a limited production. They don't make an infinite amount of any of them. Depends how specifically you want to define 'limited'.

During my search 12 months ago I found multiple dealerships selling Pro for MSRP. Granted, most had a waiting list (I ended up waiting ~6 months for mine) but they were out there. Your presumptive skepticism regarding the links shared by kmeeg isn't totally justified - as one example, Mountain States will absolutely sell for MSRP if you're a CO resident. I contacted over a hundred dealers in my search and experiences vary widely, but there are opportunities out there and it takes time and patience to find them.

One example - check with Harry at Dick Hannah Toyota in Kelso, Washington. Not only will you get a TRD Pro at MSRP, they'll also include a free lifetime powertrain warranty.

There is a good thread on this forum with dealers who sell at MSRP. The ones that do, unfortunately do have a waitlist. I too wanted a TRD Pro, but went with an ORP.

If you live in California, you might be able to find a Solar Octane for a slight markup or get lucky and find one in Sunnyvale or Walnut Creek (they had one at MSRP for a few days) Check out John Elway’s dealership in Ontario. You will need to pay $1,500 for a ceramic paint coat and they will try to get you to pay another $3,500 for a VSA and $500 for some paint protection. I almost purchased a white TRD Pro early December, but hesitated and they sold it. I would throw a ceramic coat on so I would say the $1,500 is a slight premium, but something I would do. You can negotiate on the extra $4,000 for the snake oil. If a Solar Octane is available, I’m sure you can get it for MSRP plus the $1,500 ceramic coat.
Take a look at the dealerships that sell at MSRP thread and call a few of them. Since you like going cross country it wouldn’t be a bad thing to fly out of state to pickup a TRD Pro at MSRP. Good luck

I don't think anyone completely and accurately answered the question of whether the Pro's are "limited production". My understanding is that the TRD Pro is allotted to dealerships based on their sales numbers. A dealer can't just put in an allotment request and get one, but, rather sell X number of 4Runners, then they are allotted a Pro. So it definitely creates a mystique about them, and it allows dealers to put outrageous markups on them.

From an investment standpoint, what you beed to research is whether you are going to make back that 10k markup in 3 years when you sell it. I am betting a hard no. Now, the dealer might be offering you MSRP if you put a deposit and wait for allocation, but remember what I just said, allocation of a Pro is going to be dependent on how many other trims they sell. And I would want a binding contract in the price, because the back of your purchase and sales agreement will clearly state that the price is subject to change between when you put your deposit and the vehicle arrives in the lot.

So bottom line, Pro's are awesome! If that's what you want, get it. But be prepared fir a VERY long wait, or a VERY large markup, and make sure you know what the resale market is going to look like considering that markup. It sounds like you are smart enough to have already researched and considered that though. I haven't. I would also be concerned about whether resale data from the past couple years would be reflective of the future market when you are ready to sell.

I don't think I understand this "limited production". Around here in CO all trims seems to have equal availability.

    upload_2023-1-3_10-39-3.jpgupload_2023-1-3_10-41-0.jpgupload_2023-1-3_10-52-2.jpg

But I'm not sure dealerships give this made up "limited production" term because may be there is a staff shortage in USA facility where TRD Pro parts are installed locally (Because TRD Pro comes like a TRD Offroad from Japan?

It’s a shame, really. When the dealership is cagey or dishonest about availability or delivery time, it creates an adversarial tone between the buyer and the dealership that persists long after the purchase. Perhaps forever.
I don’t think the Pro’s are just made-over TRD Off-Roads. In the photos you posted it shows them with no roof rack and steel wheels. And don’t the Pro’s come with dual zone climate control as well? My ORP doesn’t.

Yeah yeah, those features like dual climate control, JBL, etc should be coming from Japan. I guess the exterior stuff must be bolted on in USA.

I originally set out to find a TRD Off Road. I was in the same boat as you. I wanted the most off-road capability I could get in stock form and definitely did NOT want KDSS. That turned out to be difficult to find in my neck of the woods and during the time I was searching. I didn't consider a Pro, because much of the advice I was given here and on other forums was that "you'll never find a Pro at MSRP!!"... And, to give those folks credit, I DID run across quite a few dealers that were playing the "it's limited production, therefore you're going to pay a big up-charge" game on the Pros, as well as several who were doing that on Limiteds and ORPs as well.

However, my dealer called me one day with bad news on my search, but mentioned, "we DO have an incoming TRD Pro, that just left the factory, due to arrive in about 3-4 weeks". My immediate response was, "I won't pay any markup at all"... and was surprised to hear, "we don't mark up ANY models, you would get it at MSRP plus any of the factory or port options that it's getting. I put a deposit down and just a few weeks later, I had my Pro and paid only MSRP plus a $195 option for the dual USB fast-charging ports. That's it.

After having a Pro, I have found that it has quite a few things that I like much better than I would had I found the ORP that I originally wanted: Correct me if I'm wrong on these, but I think these are standard features on the Pro but either optional or not available on the ORP?)

    - Dual Climate controls. NEVER underestimate the importance of this with a girlfriend/wife/spouse etc... I think this only comes with a Limited or a Pro
    - Heated front seats (ditto the above)
    - FACTORY remote start. I have come to LOVE this creature comfort on cold days. I can do it from my key-fob OR from my phone.
    - "MTM" Front Camera with birds-eye view (I find that I use this more for parking straight between the lines than for off-road, but I use it!!)
    - 1" higher stance than other trim models and no where near the 'rake' that many complain about. Makes little difference in which tires will fit, however, I think it has a nicer stance from the showroom
    - Both front seats are power seats. Better adjustment on the drivers' side, but still a nice option.
    - Standard Nitto Grapplers and Pro wheels. I would have immediately replaced the ORP tires and wheels but these saved me that expense.
    - JBL sound system. Could have taken or left this one, but it is a nice one. A bit bummed that I lost a little storage cubby room in the back but should help with resale value.
    - Pro Exhaust. I don't think I would miss this much if I had gotten an ORP, however, after having it, I think it definitely makes it sound more like an off-road vehicle. I do NOT understand why people think it's loud. I've had many 4WD vehicles and this is one of the quietest factory exhausts I've had. Any quieter and I would start to wonder if I was in a truck at all.

Also mine came with no rails or side steps, which was find with me, I added a nice set of Rock Sliders that double as a step. I would have tossed those predator steps anyway, they rob ground space. Also, the moonroof. A lot of folks rail against them on here, but I actually like, prefer them. I would have insisted on one for my ORP, but it's standard on a Pro.

Bottom Line: the way I had my "desired" ORP outfitted - No KDSS; Add Moonroof; Add MTM front Camera system; Add TRD wheels/offroad tires; Add Front USB charging Ports (THIS ONE IS WELL WORTH THE COST!!); etc... it would have come to just under $53K. I took home a TRD Pro with all this and more, for just a shade over $54K. If you want a nicely outfitted, factory stock 4Runner that looks the part and has most of the options you need, the Pro is the way to go. If you plan to do a lot of mods, i.e. lift, suspension, tires/wheels, etc... best to go with the SR5 or ORP and save some money on things you're going to change out anyway. I'm happy with mine as it came with a few minor exceptions, glad I ended up with a Pro.

Oh... and I'm one of the weirdos who actually LIKE the roof rack on the Pro. I've figured out how to make it VERY useful for my purposes, and I enjoy the look. Like I said. Weird.

From your list above, my ORP came with:
    Heated front seats
    Dual power front seats
    Multi terrain monitor (MTM)

You are right about the dual climate control. I wish I had that on my ORP. Not on your list was the “Heritage” grill, which I think looks great and I wish I had it. But as for the rest of the Pro’s offerings, I can do without the goofy roof rack and the middling Terra Grapplers.

But you’ve got a great truck and the fact that you got it for MSRP makes a lot of us jealous!

First of all congratulations on your purchase and that is fantastic.
Hope you don't get angry with me sharing my thoughts on the Pro, a friendly discussion.

    - Dual Climate controls - True, its nice to have but I hate it automatically switching modes even if I try to manually over ride. Certain situations I like to keep "recirculate" mode vs fresh air but dual climate system keep changing that and getting bad smell in to the vehicle on traffic. TRD ORP does not do that. Its all manual.

    - Heated front seats - TRD ORP also got heated front seats. May be Pro should have both heated and ventilated like my Limited.

    - "MTM" Front Camera with birds-eye view - Wish I have that on my 21 TRD Pro. TRD ORP owners should look for this option if buying TRD ORP. Its called "Panoramic View Monitor with 360-degree Overhead View in low-speed drive and reverse, and Curb View" which is an optional feature in TRD ORP.

    - 1" higher stance - Without a doubt its a very nice stance. I bet TRD ORP owners anyway put lift with bigger tires that gives a killer stance.

    - Both front seats are power seats. - Standard on TRD ORP. Even my older TRD ORP got both power seats.

    - Standard Nitto Grapplers and Pro wheels. - Some thing I really dislike. Narrower wheels 17x7 and non 3PMSF rated Nitto Grapplers along with regular all season spare tire is a poor execution for the TRD Pro. I sold all 5 tires and got better tires. TRD ORP owners normally upgrade tires and they have better wider 17x7.5 wheel.

    - JBL sound system - Without a doubt that's my fav feature in the TRD Pro and Limited

    - Pro Exhaust - With the kid living in CO having to take mountain highways the noise level was not in our favor. We are a family go on trips with windows closed trying to get quiet ride as possible so the kiddo can sleep and won't be cranky when we stop for a break.

    Edit -

    (I missed few more items)
TRD Pro roof rack - We did not find any use for the roof rack yet. May be in future will try to use it. But they have the same cross bars like TRD ORP. TRD Pro roof rack seem to give more wind noise. I moved the crossbars to bottom row and it seems to have improved but the fixed rear bar seems to give some wind noise still. The main problem I have is I cannot lift my TRD Pro as my garage entrance won't fit the TRD Pro roof rack. TRD ORP roof rails fit my garage after 3in front & 2in rear lift. If I lift my TRD Pro I would have to spare money for the roof rack change as well. (Also wheels if I want to keep in spec for 285s (17x7.5))

Dual USB chargers - My TRD Pro does not have the optional dual USB chargers but I use flush type quick charger to the 12v circular port.

Moonroof - I wish my TRD Pro didn't have moonroof like previous TRD Pros since we have hail storms here in CO. So a stronger metal roof is my preferred choice. And without moonroof it gives a very nice extra headroom. My SR5 had no moon roof and I really loved the extra headroom. Don't remember if 3rd row passengers had extra headroom because of that.

    A minor thing -
Special colors - I specifically didn't want special colors because I want to have touch up paint easily available and also don't want extra attention with flashy colors.

I see @kmeeg already mentioned it, but these are standard on the ORP

I'm glad I don't have this, based on the comments I read. :D

I heard somewhere that the special colors on the PRO's are limited to 2000/year in US, but don't quite me on that. Pre covid October/November of 2019 around LA AG PRO's were already marked up anywhere from $10K-$20K. These markups on PRO's are nothing new.

Not angry at all! the majority of things discussed here are options and personal preferences. What works for me, may be completely abhorrent to you. I was thinking the heated / Power seats were only optional on the ORP.. my mistake. Gladly take that hit. I love mine!

The Nittos are not my favorite tire by any means, but it's a much better stock tire for me than the stock tires available on the ORP... and if I'm going to run them for a year or two before I replace them, for me they're better to live with. As with a few other items you listed, i.e. tires/wheels, lifts, etc.. these are all things that most ORP owners WOULD (as you say) upgrade anyway. THIS is the point of my list. By the time I added the options that I wanted and considered all the aftermarket things I would have added after purchase, I was already into the price of a TRD Pro. That's why I am glad I went with the Pro, because I would have spend the $$ anyway. Now granted, I didn't get to select my wheels and tires (until I put a few miles on my tires), or go with a lift/suspension mod of my choosing, but I'm happy with the stock stance, stock tire size, etc. so it's a LOT less money for me in the aftermarket mods department to just pay for a Pro up front. Of course, it ONLY makes sense if you avoid the stupid up-charge.

Also, I keep seeing complaints about the dual-climate controls changing modes. I do not have that issue at all. I take it out of auto, and set it to a very warm temp for her on the passenger side and a nice cooler one for me on my side and it stays. it doesn't shift modes, or change fan speeds. In full on "Auto" it will do that, but you can do dual temps without the full auto mode on. Unless I'm missing something.

If I had a garage, the rack might be an issue. But anywhere I park mine, it's fine and I found two Plano rifle cases that I gutted and set up with supplies that I can mount to the Pro Rack and it serves it's purpose for me without encroaching on the Moonroof spot. I like it. Personal preference.

I didn't care about the heated seats when I was shopping for mine, but now I never want another vehicle without them!

This is my third vehicle with heated seats since 2002. I couldn't imagine not having them. My wife's 2019 Volvo has a heated steering wheel which I thought was ridiculous, but damn that feels good too!

I was wishing for a heated steering wheel about a week and a half ago! I'd be happy to have one on the next vehicle.
