    All,

I have a 2020 TRD Pro, however, the drone noise the trd pro OEM cat-back exhaust makes is a no-go for my family. I was wondering if anyone can provide a link or description of alternate OEM exhaust options I can replace with that don’t do that drone noise.

Many non pro owners would probably trade their stock plus give you money on top.

Just look around on marketplace, I've seen them for $50-150.

P.s. ALOT of pro owners say the same thing about the drone and noise.

Why not add a resonator to the system. At least on my 15 Tacoma my TRD cat back sounds perfect. Maybe that dual VVT makes it sound mean, lol.

I put the magnaflow overland system on mine and has no interior drone and all and has a nice exterior growl, nothing crazy but just enough to give a nice sound. Plus the exhaust exit is a turn down underneath to help eliminate possible off-road damage. It’s a pricey system but IMO worth it if you still want a nice exhaust note with no interior drone.

I added the TRD exhaust and I'm more than likely removing it for something else.

I looked at changing it. But the bolts doesn't match. 3 on TRD vs 2 on other models. Else I would have to change the entire thing, then if I decide to trade in the dealership would notice it right away and try to reduce the price. I would keep my eye on a quiet option that directly bolt on. Till then family have to bare the noisy ride especially on mountain highways here in CO.

Will any resonator drown the drone ?

That’s what I was thinking, once you try to sell it or trade it, that diminishes some authenticity of the TRD PRO. Perhaps I was considering a resonator, just don’t know much about those.

It is a direct swap between the Pro exhaust and the standard exhaust. There are two pieces - the muffler and the pipe that connects the muffler to the cats. You're right - the joint between those two is different, with the Pro exhaust has 3 bolts and the stock exhaust has two, but the connection at the front of the pipe is identical between the stock exhaust and the Pro exhaust. Speaking from experience as I have swapped my Pro exhaust for a stock exhaust.

Don't ruin the trd exhaust. Look on marketplace or eBay for a oem system.

Then either trade your exhaust for stock(sr5, trdor) exhaust, or sell yours and maybe make some coin

I didn't like it initially, but got accustomed to it. A couple of weeks ago I drove my wife's Volvo for three days when we went out of town for a weekend. Upon our return I thought my Pro exhaust was annoyingly loud. I got accustomed to it again! After 15 months I'd rather not have it, than have it - but it doesn't bother me enough to go thru the trouble to swap it out! I feel the same way about the Pro roof rack!

Mind you I don’t have a runner. If the pipe is long enough and straight you can add any size you want. The longer the better.

I have the Gibson exhaust, it is a bolt on system but I did have it installed at my local shop and they chose to weld it. I opted for a black Gibson square tip that is tucked under the bumper so as to not impede with clearance (pic below). I love the system, deep mellow growl and zero drone. Just a thought despite it sounding like you want to stay with a Toyota system of some sort.

This is just my opinion, but I wouldn't worry too much about resale/keeping OEM. Many TRD OR's & Pro's get modified, and an exhaust is a super simple thing that often would even go unnoticed. After all, it's a 4Runner, it is not a collector Porsche (etc etc etc pick your high end manufacturer) or similar where the market would value a completely stock, original paint/glass/etc... example materially differently than a slightly modified one.

All that said, I'd agree with the above. There are quite a few people that would trade or pay you for your trd system and give you their stock.

I swapped my Pro exhaust when I had my Pro. It was a direct fit for both of us. Took an hour. Best mod I ever made.

I tried (at a 4x4) just to change the resonator (if that is the correct word for that big silver color thing) and the output side had 3 bolts going to the bent pipe vs the SR5 (and other trims) had 2 bolts on both input side and output side. Per the non silencer 4x4 shop thinks if I change just the resonator I should not get the noise / should be closer to the SR5 (and other trims) noise level.

I know some go to silencer shops cut and weld. I'm scared to do it.

I installed a sporty free flow cat back exhaust on my Tacoma once, and it was a loud drone in the cab, all I did was add a quality Pacesetter exhaust tip that had internal baffling and packing. End of drone in cab. I may do the same thing with my new 22 TRD Pro 4runner if we cannot put up with the cabin drone. As of now we like it as is, but that could change after trips, etc.

If you're going OEM, no need to cut and weld. Get both parts of the cat-back portion of the OEM exhaust and it's a direct swap for the TRD equivalent.

i want to keep my side exhaust tailpipe which is a 3 hole flange compared to non TRD which is 2 flange. So its a cut and weld.

I did the cut and weld today. Not the prettiest weld but it got the job done, I kept the side exit, installed an OEM muffler and NO MORE DRONE. Was totally worth it.

That incessant drone is one of the reasons I did not buy the "Pro". And the money I saved paid for my supercharger.....substance over sound ;)

Just acquired the TRD Exhaust setup from BAM. Pretty sure the 2-bolt piece on the muffler that attaches right behind the cats is damaged and bent. I’ve been reviewing others pics online and it does appear this piece is supposed to be perfectly flat for both spring bolts to fasten in. Just so I can confirm I’m not going crazy, someone care to comment that this does indeed look warped? No visible damage to the area, looks like a perfect bend, really disappointed. Already reached out to BAM, hoping they’ll dispatch a replacement piece before I have to send it back and wait for it to arrive back. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Yes the flange is bent. You could just bend it back. The donut gasket is what seals the exhaust, not that part of the flange.

Any recommendations on best way to bend it back accurately without marring it up? I’ve got basic tools, but I’m not a metal fabricator.

Apply heat to the metal and bend it back slowly.

Welp, looks like I’ll be waiting for BAM to exchange the jacked up exhaust they sold me. No fun for me this weekend, le sigh. :(
