Do the 5th gen 4Runners come with a replaceable cabin air filter? If so, is it easy to get at and do you access it from under the hood or from inside the passenger cabin?

I can’t find any reference to this on the Toyota website. I suppose I could call a dealer to ask, but decided to check here. Thanks.

Through the glovebox. It's easy if your glovebox is empty.

Some people use factory only. Some go to WallyWorld or pretty much any auto parts store. If I find any that are on sale, I'll buy 2 or 3 just because.

I could almost swear that the cabin filters pick up more debris than the engine air filters. LOL

I get aftermarket filters from Amazon for about $8 each.

    Dealer charges $40 to replace.

Just purchased both air and cabin filters from Toyota dealer. Both together were $65.00. Kind of expensive.

It was pretty gray compared to the normal bright white. It also had some debris in it.

Autozone.com has a 20% coupon and free next day shipping with $125. It was $100 on Black Friday. So was easier to do.

I'm not trying offend...BUT does anyone actually ever read their owner's manual???

There's a lot of good info in the manual including where the cabin filter(referred to as the Air Conditioner Filter)is and how to change it!!

Real men don’t read manuals or instruction booklets. I think that’s how the saying goes. I would just take everything apart until I found it.

Writing this post will take longer than changing the cabin filter.

Was probably grey because it was the OEM original charcoal filter.
IMHO the charcoal ones are the best.

Yep! I do a bit of off-roading on dirt and rocky roads and my cabin filter was pretty clogged with leaves and pine needles. Also, with the wild fires here in the summer and all of the extreme dust, my cabin filter needs replaced every year.

Went with the Fram cabin filter from a local auto parts store. About a 5 min. op., if you have to remove things from compartment, we also had to remove the organizer, cost was about $14 for the charcoal version of the filter.

I'd be shocked if they used a charcoal filter. Everyone puts cheap OEM shit in their new vehicles like filters.

I'm not in the 'must be charcoal' camp but, a lot of people do skip 'filter change day'.

For me it's twice a year. In the Spring, after the Winter chimney smoke season and in the Fall, after the Summer wildfire smoke season.

I change my cabin filter and air filter every time I change the oil at 5K or less. I drive dusty roads every day.

I was referring to someone changing it for the first time. Both of my T4R’s came from the factory with charcoal filters.

You're not wrong! Spring on '21 I replaced my cabin air filter and engine air filter at the same time. Earlier this summer I checked both filters again, cabin filter was filthy, engine filter was pretty clean. Replaced the cabin filter again, left the engine filter alone.

Anyone have feedback on K&N cabin air filter?
I've read they off gas a little bit of rubber odor, but not sure if the reviewer's purchased a fake/copy K&N.

I wasn't aware that K&N offered a cabin air filter. In researching, it seems a washable, reusable filter might be a good idea. As long as you don't have to add any oil to it to be effective, like their engine air filter, it seems like it would work. However, it runs somewhere in the range of $35 - $45. If it really lasts 100k miles as they state, $35 - $45 paid up front might not be so bad.

It's actually a savings in the long run. 35.00 and reusable.

I edited my post after researching this filter a bit more. You are correct, if it really lasts that long.
