I just picked up a pair of DD MAX amber fog lights. It annoys the hell out of me that Toyota made the fog lights only turn on with the headlights. Im thinking im going to rewire them so I can turn them on by themselves. Has anyone done this?

Yup. I have the DD Pro's and have it hooked up directly to a separate switch. Used DD harness and a switch from AOB.InkedIMG_20211230_142416917.jpg

Be careful, in so far as state laws. Some states may not permit using fog lights only. I wanted to do this when my 2006 Tundra was brand new.

Not wanting to screw with it myself while it was brand new under warranty, I asked my dealer to re-do the fog lights on a separate switch. They immediately refused, telling me it was illegal to do that. I don’t know, I never bothered verifying that.

Maybe they just didn’t want to do it and were just blowing me off? Anyway, to this day, my fog lights on my ‘06 Tundra won’t work unless my headlights are also on. Lol….

I’m on the cusp now of finally letting my trusty ‘06 Tundra go, to replace it with a new 4Runner Premium. Probably going to pull the trigger this coming Summer.

LA260, do your tail lights come on when you activate your fog lights?

Definitely illegal in PA, and I presume other states. Here in PA most licensed inspection stations will check it during annual inspection. Of course, there are local shops that will overlook such an infraction for appropriate compensation.

You can do a signal throw double pole switch and hook it right at 12v source.
