2020+ Fuse box and Add-a-Fuse Possible?

I'm waiting to take delivery of a 2023 ORP (hopefully in a couple of weeks) and plan to install the Anytime Fog Lite box but I don't want to have it wired directly to the battery and want to have it shut itself down when the ignition is turned off. There's a great write up on how to do that here.

However, someone put in the comments of that article that the '20+ 4R models have a different fuse box design which makes using an Add-a-Fuse problematic without modification. So a couple of questions for the group here:

1) Does anyone know if this is true? Has anyone added a fuse on a newer 5th Gen?

2) If the fuse box is different, what's different? Is it height so you cant have the lead come up and out of the fuse position? Or is it just the placement of the IJN fuse position?

Any other thoughts on why this would be a problem? I don't have access to a new 4R to look myself and all of the other Brite Box threads I've found don't address both newer models and using the fuse box.

 

I’ve used add a taps to my ‘21 without issues. You have to push down to get the cover to snap shut, but totally doable.

 

I've used the low profile add a fuse with no problem on my 2020

 

There are 2 types of add-a-fuse. Get the one where the orientation of the fuses are horizontal - they are lower profile. You can then run the wire how I did so you can close the cover without pinching the wire.

Are you talking about the additional fuse box just aft of the main engine bay fuse box that's next to the battery? If so, relocating it aft a few inches is possible with special mounts. I simply bent back the corner of the oem bracket and was able to install the universal Auxbeam fuse and relay box bracket above and aft of the oem fuse box. I can access all three fuse boxes independently and can share pictures later today if you would benefit from my experience wiring it.

I just used an add a fuse on my 2022. Worked fine.

 

I'm revisiting the thread now that I've installed the Brite Box and ran into an issue with the fuses...

For my fuse box, there's only about 1/8" clearance between where the IJN fuse sits and the top of the fuse box cover. With the various options for add-a-circuits that I've been able to find, none would be able to fit. I ended up using the ECU #2 fuse which sits much lower. So far the only draw back is the lights stay on for an extra 5-10 seconds after turning the car off before the ECU shuts down. I've also seen the ECU wake up and bring the lights on, but it was for a very brief moment and something I've only witnessed once (and I didn't have my key on me at the time so it wasn't me waking it up).

FWIW, my fuse box is definitely different than the one pictured in that post. It looks like there isn't room to route the cable out anymore either, unless you start unbolting the fuse box and do some modification. I ended up going another route which required a little dremeling.

That said, any chance you have a link to the type of fuse you're recommending? I did a bunch of searching on the 'net and wasn't able to find something that would even remotely fit under the cover where the IJN fuse sits.

Any chance you can take a quick picture? I'm curious to see how you did it or if the layout is different than the '23 (I'd be surprised if it was).
