I periodically run my jeep wrangler through 4h and 4l (yes appropriate conditions) to keep the transfer case loosened up. I would like some opinions on the need to do the same with the AWD 4Runner. Is it necessary? Thanks.

I believe it has electro-mechanical actuators to engage the center diff and 4lo, so I would cycle them regularly.

yes 100%. Been our Limited the city vehicle there was a time more than a month I did not use the center diff and when I did use H4L I felt it engaging little harder. Ever since I used to engage center diff lock on a straight road.
And L4L when possible, but sometimes cannot exercise L4L religiously every month.

Find a straight road for high and a parking lot for low.

Agree, 4L and center diff lock no longer work on my sequoia and 4H is very slow to engage I believe primarily because the wife never exercised them. It’s abuse it or lose it senerio.

My Sequoia doesn’t go into 4L anymore because the wife never exercises it. 4H kinda works. I never drive it.

I do it almost everyday for a few blocks on a straightaway on my way home and typically on stretches where I know I will be going straight only. (referring to the 4x4 system but same idea)

I usually do it at the 1st of the month, easy for me to remember.

Yep, exercise those actuators for the transfer case and that little sleeve that connects the front axles.
